During an upgrading prject where a new bridge linking Dandra and Krgch slums was being built,Okinda and his c-funders saw an pprtunity. Having wrked as casual labrers and security fficers fr the prject, the yuth decided t carry n by restring the river under the bridge n a vluntary basis.
"When we started, ur main fcus was the dumpsite(垃圾场) under the bridge," Okinda said. "It was a hiding place fr thieves and a place where criminals wuld g t cnduct their illegal activities, s we wanted t create a green and safe place fr children t play and fr yung peple t relax."
With limited resurces, insufficient funds and an enrmus task,Kmb Green Slutins has slwly but surely started turning the city’s Krgch slum frm an eyesre int a safe place where children can play and adults can live healthy lives.
