The last time she almst spke the wrds was tw years ag, when she called t tell me a friend had been in hspital. I said, "I lve yu, Mm." She stpped fr a while and then said, "Thank yu." I haven’t said it since. But I’d wndered why my mther desn’t until I fund a pem that supplies wrds t the blank spaces I try t understand in ur cnversatins:
    Dn’t fill up n bread. I say absent-mindedly. The servings here are huge.
    My sn, whse hair may be receding a bit, says: Did yu really just say that t me?
    What he desn’t knw is that when we’re walking tgether, when we get t the curb, I smetimes start t reach fr his hand.
    It’s humble, yet heartbreaking. After cpying it dwn in my jurnal, I emailed it t my mm, adding, "This pem makes me think f yu." My mther desn’t read petry — r at least, she desn’t tell me. I felt nervus clicking "Send".
