Tw years ag, my 11-year-ld sn sat me dwn fr a talk. “Mm, it’s time.” he said. “Hear me ut: It’s time we gt actual TV. And yu need an iPhne.”

Withut any prmpting (提醒), he’s even emailed and called, yes, made an actual phne call t custmer service r tech supprt when sample prducts weren’t wrking as expected.

In a glbal recrd f lake clr, researchers estimate that rughly ne-third f Earth’s lakes are blue. But, shuld average summer air temperatures rise by a few degrees, sme f thse clear waters culd turn a cludy green r brwn, the team reprts in the Sept. 28 Gephysical Research Letters.
The changing clrs culd change hw peple use thse waters and ffer clues abut the stability f lake ecsystems. Cmpared with blue lakes, green r brwn lakes have mre algae (藻类) and rganic matter, says Xia Yang, a hydrlgist (水文专家) at Suthern Methdist University.
Lakes in places with average summer air temperatures that were belw 19° Celsius were mre likely t be blue than lakes with warmer summers. That’s because warmer water helps algae blm mre, which changes the prperties f the water.
Yang and clleagues used satellite phts frm 2013 t 2020 t analyze the clr f mre than 85,000 lakes arund the wrld. Because strms and seasns can temprarily affect a lake’s clr, the researchers fcused n the mst frequent clr bserved fr each lake ver the seven-year perid. The researchers als created an interactive nline map that can be used t explre the clrs f these lakes. The apprach is “super cl,” says Dina Leech, an eclgist at Lngwd University. These satellite data are “just s pwerful.”
If sme lakes d becme less blue, peple will prbably lse sme f the resurces they have cme t value, says O’Reilly, wh is an eclgist at Illinis State University. If the water has mre algae, it culd be unappealing fr play r mre cstly t clean fr drinking. But the clr changes wuldn’t necessarily mean that the lakes are any less healthy. “Humans dn’t value lts f algae in a lake, but if yu’re a certain type f fish species, yu might be like ‘this is great’” O’Reilly says.
“The study sets a marker that we can cmpare future results t,” says O’Reilly. “That’s, t me, the great pwer f this study.”
32. What can we learn abut the lakes’ clr change accrding t the text?
A. It is caused by water pllutin.
B. It des harm t the grwth f algae.
C. It results frm the temperature increase.
D. It can disturb the stability f lake ecsystems.
33. Hw was the research cnducted?
A. By ding field investigatin.B. By analyzing lng-term satellite data.
C. By researching previus studies.D. By referring t an interactive nline map.
34. Which wrd best describes O’Reilly’s attitude t the clr change?
A. Objective.B. Dubtful.C. Uncncerned.D. Favurable.
35. What’s the authr’s purpse in writing the text?
A. T call n peple t prtect lakes.
B. T intrduce a new research methd.
C. T present the utcme f a research.
D. T prvide slutins t lakes’ clr change.

It desn’t matter if yur entire speech is gd and the audience cme away with infrmatin that will change their lives. If yu talk t lng, they will leave saying that speaker just wuldn’t quit. Dn’t let this happen t yu.
Say what yu have t say and sit dwn. Befre yu d, give them a well-thught-ut clsing. The last thing yu say is generally what the audience remembers mst. Just like yur pening, yur clsing desn’t have t be humrus. It culd be challenging, thughtful, r it culd retell yur pint in a different way. Please, at sme time during yur talk, ask the audience t d smething. Many a great talk ges n further than the walls f the meeting-rm because the audience isn’t mved t actin. If yu haven’ t asked them t d smething by nw, the clsing is yur last chance.
