They cmpared that t the animal’s diet and hw the animals mved. They als checked whether the animal was ncturnal r diurnal, Travuilln explained. Animals that are ncturnal are mst active at night, whereas animals that are diurnal are mst active during the day.
One finding was that flurescence was mre cmmn amng grund-dwelling, tree-dwelling and burrwing mammals cmpared t animals that live in water, Travuilln said. The team als fund that having a flurescent cat was mre cmmn amng ncturnal animals cmpared t diurnal animals. One ptential explanatin fr that fact is that having a flurescent cat culd help n cturnal animals becme mre visible t ptential partners.
“S, fr example, with a species like a qull that has white spts n its back, the flurescence wuld simply brighten their spts,” Travuilln said. “In this way, they are mre easily seen. Flurescence might help members f a species find each ther and perhaps recgnize each ther frm a distance,” Travuilln added.
