When I visited the remte Swedish twn. f Alvdalen, I was immediately struck by the frest-cvered valley in which it is situated. I was set t meet the last speakers f Elfdalian. The language is currently used nly by abut 2,500 peple, but it has preserved language features that are t be fund nwhere else in Scandinavia.
Elfdalian is unique amng Nrdic(北欧人的)languages, with different tnes and sunds. Even the grammar and vcabulary are unlike Swedish. S, while speakers f Swedish, Nrwegian, and Danish are able t have simple cnversatins and understand each ther, it is nt s with Elfdalian. While Elfdalian riginated frm the same regin as Swedish, it is cmpletely baffling(理解不了)t nn-lcal peple.
Fr centuries, it was unnecessary fr the majrity f the native Elfdalian-speaking ppulatin t learn standard Swedish r ther languages, as mst trade and ecnmi netwrks ccurred within lcal areas. Elfdalian remained an active language until the 20th century.
Hwever, with increased mbility and the arrival f mass media, speakers f Elfdalian shifted t Swedish. At present, nly half f the residents f Alvdalen speak it, and f the yungest generatin, nly abut 60 children under the age f 15 are fluent in it.
During my visit, I was lucky t be intrduced t a grup f language activists united under the name Ulum Dalska. Attempts are being made by these lcal enthusiasts t revive(复苏)the language. After many years f actin; Ulum Dalska has recently been successful in cnvincing the lcal authrities t start up an Elfdalian-speaking grup at the lcal preschl. This means that, fr the first time in histry, Elfdalian has made its fficial entry int the Swedish schling system.
On the whle, mre and mre peple seem t be cnvinced f the preciusness f Elfdalian and the need t preserve it fr future generatins. And in a glbalizing wrld, the right attitude is perhaps the mst imprtant step twards a full language recvery.

A. It aims t prtect Elfdalian.B. It is financed by the gvernment.
C. It was initiated by language experts.D. It tries t refrm the teaching philsphy.

A. An encunter with sme language activists in Alvdalen
