Fishing with birds
Wang Damin is a fisherman. Althugh he is ver 65, he is very fit and still enjys wrking.
Damin uses crmrants t catch fish. Crmrants are large black birds. They are gd at catching fish because they can swim well. They can dive dwn and stay under the water fr up t tw minutes.
Damin usually sets ff in the late afternn and gets the crmrants ready fr wrk. First, he ties a piece f grass arund their necks t stp them frm eating big fish. Then when Damin’s bat reaches the right place in the river, he pushes them int the river. Damin uses several ways t attract fish. During the day, he jumps up and dwn n his bat. After dark, he hangs a light n a pst at the frnt f the bat. The crmrants bring the fish back t the bat. The fish are then taken and thrwn int a big basket by Damin. N nets are required fr this type f fishing.
Crmrant fishing was nce practised in lts f places in Suth-East China, and there were many fishermen in the area. But tday, few yung peple are interested in it. In 50 years, perhaps there will be n mre crmrant fishermen in the wrld.
