What is clear is that we yawn mre when we’re very tired and ready fr a shrt sleep, and we can’t cntrl when we d it—nce we start, there’s n stpping us! But it’s als true that yawning is a very cntagius behaviur. Jhn Drury, a researcher frm Sussex University, tld the BBC, “Yawning is smething that yu can’t stp. Dgs yawn when their wners yawn. Animals yawn at each ther. It happens whether yu want t r nt.”
His research int this behaviur fund that there is a cnnectin with ur scial grup and hw clse we are t the peple in it. If we identify with(认同) the persn wh yawns, we are likely t cpy it t.

Separate Bys and Girls at Schl
Jack White is a 17-year-ld student wh has already published a cllectin f petry with a lcal publisher. Jack believes switching (转换) t an all-bys schl changed his life.
“When I was at my ced (男女同校的) schl, petry was fr girls, nt bys. Bys were suppsed t like subjects like math, cmputers, and science. When I wrte pems, the bys at schl used t make fun f me. At my new schl, things are different.”

Teenage girls find it easier t answer the questin, “Hw des the stry make yu feel?” than teenage bys. Research has shwn that teenage girls’ brains develp the cnnectins between language and emtins earlier than bys’ brains. A teenage by will have mre difficulty answering that questin because his brain has nt fully develped that cnnectin yet. In a single-sex classrm, everyne’s brain is develping at similar speeds, s teachers can teach accrding t their students’ actual abilities.

Wmen teachers ften speak mre quietly, s bys may have mre difficulty hearing a wman teacher if she is talking in her “nrmal” vice. The teacher needs t speak luder t get the bys’ attentin. In a single-sex schl, teachers d nt have t keep adjusting the vlume f their vice.

As Jack says, “I hated writing and studying English in my ld ced schl, but lk at me nw, I am a published pet! My new schl helped me becme cmfrtable with wh I really am.”
30.What can we learn frm the passage?
A.Girls usually have less pprtunities t talk in class in a ced schl.
B.Jack was laughed at by ther bys because he was nt gd at petry.
C.The part f the brain that understands ur emtins grws slwer in bys.
D.Bys’ and girls’ brains will develp at similar speeds if they study tgether.
31.What will prbably happen in a single-sex schl?
A.Students will learn and make prgress at the same speed.
B.Teachers will give lessns based n their students’ abilities.
C.Students will be expected t learn petry as a main subject.
D.Teachers will ask mre questins invlved in students’ emtins.
32.The wrds “adjusting the vlume” in Paragraph 5 prbably mean “________”.
A.changing the ludnessB.increasing the clearness
C.lwering the levelD.cntrlling the speed
33.What is the writer’s main purpse in writing this passage?
A.T explain why single-sex educatin is better.
