There are few peple as self-cnfident as a cllege student wh has never been ut in the real wrld. Peple f my age always seem t verestimate the value f their time and knwledge. In fact, all the classes did nt prepare me fr my battles with the machine I ran in the plant, which wuld jam whenever I absent-mindedly put in a part backward r upside dwn.
The mst stressful thing abut blue-cllar life is knwing yur jb culd disappear vernight. Issues like being laid ff and verseas relcatin had always seemed distant t me until my c-wrkers tld me that the unit I was wrking in wuld shut dwn within six mnths and mve t Mexic, where peple wuld wrk fr 60 cents an hur.
After wrking 12-hur shifts in a factry, the ther ptins have becme nly t clear. “This jb pays well, but it's hell n the bdy, ” said ne c-wrker. “Study hard and keep reading.” she added. When I’m back at the university, skipping classes and turning in lazy re-writes seems t irrespnsible after seeing what I wuld be ding withut schl. All the advice and public-service annuncements abut the value f an educatin that used
t sund stale nw ring true.

Mst f us wuld like t be mre creative, but we assume there is little we can d abut it. Psychlgy prfessr K. Anders Ericssn claims that with enugh practice, any f us can becme experts. Hwever, he is quick t add that this requires a specific kind f practice that Ericssn calls “deliberate practice”, that is, pushing beynd ne’s cmfrt zne and setting gals that are abve ne’s current level f perfrmance. He says he has yet t find the limits n being successful and he desn’t believe them t be real.
Ericssn has lked primarily at artistic and athletic skills, but can these findings apply t creativity? Mst experts agree that even if mst peple cannt hpe t becme creative geniuses, they can learn t becme mre creative thrugh practice. Psychlgists claim that there are actually tw levels f creativity, which they refer t as “Big C” and “small c”. Big C creativity applies t breakthrugh ideas, nes that may change the curse f a field r even histry. Small c creativity refers t everyday creative prblem slving, like creating a new recipe r imprving a prcess, which psychlgists subdivide further int similar and different thinking. Similar thinking invlves examining all the facts and arriving at a single slutin. In cntrast, different thinking invlves cming up with many pssible slutins. What mst peple think f as creativity generally invlves different thinking and can be taught, practised and learnt.
Even with practice, different thinking alne cannt make ne creative, hwever. Sctt Barry Kaufman, a cgnitive psychlgist, says that mst creative peple share ne persnality quality: penness t new experience. Since this quality and these prcesses have been identified, less creative peple can try t emulate them. Nrmally, we tend t reprduce what we already knw because creative ideas mve us int unfamiliar territry invlving risks and fllwing the usual behavirs is cmfrtable.
Mving utside f ur cmfrt zne, engaging indeliberate practice and tlerating cntradictry ideas, risk and failure are all things we can learn t d better. It is unlikely that ding s will transfrm any f us int creative geniuses, but it des have the ptential t increase ur level f creativity.
Why des Ericssn think he can’t find the limits?
    A. N restrictins exist.B. Practice makes perfect.
    C. Each ne can succeed.D. The gal is ambitius.
Which f the fllwing is an example f “small c”?
    Settling in uter space.
    Building a plastic dghuse.
Develping rbts t lk after the ld.
Explaining the thery f evlutin in class.
What des the underlined wrd “emulate” in paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Defend.B. Limit.C. Assess.D. Cpy.
What message des the authr seem t cnvey in the text?
We can learn t be mre creative.
Life is full f varius challenges.
It’s better t take deliberate practice.
    Mst can becme creative geniuses.

Fr years, dctrs have given bld t patients wh need it t survive. These transfusins usually include giving red bld cells t patients.
Bld transfusins aren’t as simple as taking bld frm ne persn and giving it t smene else. There’re several different bld types that dn’t all mix well. If smene gets a transfusin f the wrng kind f bld, their bdy will reject the bld cells, causing prblems. Fr the first time ever, scientists frm the University f Bristl, Britain, are carrying ut a new trail: testing red bld cells grwn in a labratry n human vlunteers. The scientists have used stem cells (干细胞) frm a bld sample t grw billins f brand new red bld cells.
This culd be even better than a regular bld transfusin. Fr ne thing, they can be adjusted fr peple with
different bld types. That’ll be extremely helpful fr peple with rare bld types. Als, a nrmal transfusin has red bld cells f all different ages, which means nly a small part f them are brand new. The red bld cells grwn in the lab are brand new, and this means they last lnger and that patients will need fewer transfusins.
T test its safety, researchers have given a cuple f teaspns f the bld t tw healthy peple, bth f whm seem t be ding just fine after the transfusins. In all, they’ll be tested n 10 peple, and cmpared t nrmal transfusins. The new prcess desn’t indicate that nrmal bld transfusins will disappear. Meanwhile, grwing red bld cells in a lab is extremely expensive. And a lt f wrk and testing still need t be dne. But if it’s successful, the prcess culd make life much easier fr patients wh ften need transfusins—even thse with rare bld types.
Why are the scientists carrying ut the research?
The bld reserve is nt adequate.
Nrmal bld transfusins are ut f date.
Mre and mre peple need bld transfusins.
They want t find a new trail f bld transfusins.
What’s the advantage f the brand new red bld cells grwn in the lab?
They suit the patients f all different ages.
They have red bld cells frm different races.
They are effective t the patients fr a lnger term.
It is extremely ecnmical and makes life much easier.
Which f the fllwing statements is true?
The research still has a lng way t g.
Nrmal bld transfusins will disappear sn.
Ten peple have received the lab-grwn brand new bld.
The brand new bld isn’t fit fr thse with rare bld types. 35.Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.Bld Transfusins Get EasierB.Rare Bld Types Are Nt Rare C.Scientists Test Lab-created BldD.Rare Bld Cells Need Dnating
