    On September 6, 1860, the wman wh devted her whle life t helping the pr was brn. Her name was Jane Addams. Even thugh Jane came frm a well-t-d family, she saw the bad living cnditins f the pr. As a yung child, Jane had made up her mind as t what she wanted t d with her life. Jane wanted t help thse peple wh culdn’t help themselves. She thught that the best way t help the pr was t becme a dctr. Jane entered medical schl, but because f pr health, she had t leave schl.
    It wasn’t until Jane visited Lndn that she discvered hw she wuld spend the rest f her life. In Lndn, Jane saw a settlement huse. A settlement huse was a place where pr peple culd g fr help. In 1889, Jane Addams pened the first settlement huse in America. It was lcated in a very pr neighbrhd in Chicag.
