The famus Spanish painter Pabl Picass nce said, “I always d what I can’t d s that I can learn hw t d it.” It strikes a chrd (引起共鸣) with me because that’s exactly what I’ve dne these years.
One f my earliest memries f ding befre learning is f baking scnes (烤饼) when I was abut 10 years ld. I wanted t bake them t surprise my mther when she returned hme.
Befre that I’d bserved hw my mther baked them many times. As I started t try, I didn’t knw I shuldn’t handle the dugh (面团) with my hands t much nce I’d added the baking pwder (发酵粉). Hwever, I knew exactly hw t rll ut the dugh and use a ckie cutter t cut the scnes, because my mm had already taught me.
By the time my mm arrived hme, the smell f freshly baked scnes welcmed her int the kitchen. They were baked t glden brwn perfectin—flat, as a result f verhandling the dugh, but they tasted OK. My mm sweetly praised me fr my attempt, rather than sclding me fr the state f the kitchen, which was like a trnad had just blwn!
Have my attempts always been successful? I wish! Sme f my kitchen disasters were f such prprtins that even the dgs wanted nthing t d with them. My gardening failures didn’t live t see anther seasn.
But my habit f ding befre learning is still helpful. Whatever cmputer prgram r applicatin I have t learn, I d s by simply starting t use it. I d, learn, and imprve. S if yu ask me whether I regret that I tend t d first and learn later, I’d say I dn’t, because what I have discvered frm thse is the wisdm t knw when it’s OK t d and then learn, and when it’s prbably better t learn and then d!
24. What can we learn abut the authr’s first experience f baking scnes?
A. She practiced hard befre actually trying.
B. She turned t her mm when necessary.
C. She wanted t perfrm better than her mm.
D. She managed t d it despite a little imperfectin.

B. She expressed her appreciatin fr the jb.
C. She shared her first experience f baking.
D. She was surprised by the mess in the kitchen.
26. What des the authr think f her practices f “ding befre learning”?
A. They are just a barely usable methd.B. Mst f them have ended up in failure.
C. They cntribute a lt t her self-imprvement.D. They nly apply t the learning f specific skills.
27. What is the authr’s purpse in writing the text?

B. T shw the benefits f ding befre learning.
C. T encurage peple t d smething they can’t d.

Neil de Grasse Tysn, a famus astrphysicist, said, “The day we stp explring is the day we cmmit urselves t living in a stagnant (停滞不前的) wrld, lack f curisity, empty f dreams.” We as human beings need t explre. Curisity is in ur nature.
There are sme, hwever, wh d nt think that space explratin is necessary. Space explratin can cst a lt f mney. Accrding t brandngaille.cm, “In 2016, the budget fr NASA was $19.3 billin and it wuld nly take $30 billin t end wrld hunger glbally each year.” Nt nly des space explratin hurt the finances f cuntries, it als affects the planets.
T reach the stars, we must cnsume fssil fuels. Mre than 3.8 millin punds f fuels were used fr the space shuttle prgram in the United States. The cst fr a single lad f fuel fr the SpaceX Dragn is estimated t be high as $300,000 per launch. These fssil fuels can damage the atmsphere and the ceans when all the leftver metals fall int it.
Anther prblem with space explratin is the risk that it pses fr the astrnauts themselves. Astrnauts are putting their minds and bdies n the line when they g int space. Space radiatin can damage their central nervus system, with bth acute effects and later cnsequences.
While the bservatin des make very gd and imprtant pints, the benefits f explring ur slar system greatly utweigh the negatives. Space explratin allws us t see what the universe has in plan fr us. Accrding t nasa.gv, “Future missins may be able t identify whether the planets have atmsphere and, if s, even determine their cmpsitins.”
Accrding t greengarbageblg.rg. “We are nw able t use satellites t mnitr the weather, atmsphere and discver new things which are applied in ur daily lives. And at times f hurricanes and typhns, these satellites are used t mnitr their mvement and identify their cverage.” Thanks t space explratin, we can see what is ut in space and what is cming s we can predict and prepare urselves.
Space explratin is rather imprtant and necessary in tday’s wrld. It creates pprtunities fr peple t nt nly be emplyed but expand their knwledge and creativity.
28. What is sme peple’s cncern abut space explratin?
A. It might affect the earth’s envirnment.
B. It might lead t cmpetitin amng cuntries.
C. It might make wrld hunger a bigger prblem.

29. What des paragraph 4 mainly tell us?
A. Astrnauts tend t feel very uncmfrtable in space.
B. Astrnauts are faced with varius challenges in space.
C. Astrnauts play an imprtant rle in space explratin.
D. Astrnauts might suffer bth physical and mental prblems.
30. What des NASA expect t d in the future?
A. Study the planets in detail.B. Cmpare Earth with ther planets.
C. Ensure safety f space explratin.D. Send experienced astrnauts int space.
31. Which benefit can Earth get frm space explratin?
A. It can send signals t ther planets.
B. It can make satellites mre cntrllable.
C. It can make preparatins fr natural disasters.
D. It can warn ther planets f natural disasters.

Animals, including humans, depend n accurate infrmatin t navigate (导航) the wrld. But we can easily be affected by misinfrmatin r “fake news”, fling us int making a pr chice. Hwever, a team f scientists in New Zealand shws hw a frm f fake news can help save vulnerable wildlife.
Predatrs (捕食者) were intrduced t New Zealand in the 1800s. They are especially cmmn in the landscapes f the Mackenzie Basin n New Zealand’s Suth Island. There, they eat eggs and kill endangered shrebirds. The birds evlved with predatrs, and have learnt t hide frm them by building camuflaged (隐蔽的) nests n the river shres.
And the research led by Grant Nrbury, a senir scientist at Landcare Research (LCR), aims t undermine the predatrs’ strategies. In the study, the researchers first cllected drs (气味) gt frm the feathers and preen glands f three bird species. Five weeks befre the shrebirds arrived fr their breeding seasn in 2016, the researchers mixed the drs with Vaseline and spread the mixture n hundreds f rcks ver tw 1,000-hectare study sites.
The predatrs were attracted t the drs in the beginning. But within days, after realizing the scent wuld nt lead t fd, they lst interest and stpped visiting the site. The shrebirds then arrived at Mackenzie Basin at their nrmal breeding time, and began building nests and laying eggs. At cntrl sites where the “fake news” had nt been used effectively, the predatrs ate eggs and birds at the usual rate. But at sites where they put ut unrewarding bird drs, the results were impressive.
The number f nests destryed by predatrs almst halved. As a result, chick prductin was 1.7 times higher at treated sites cmpared t cntrl sites ver the 25—35 days f the nesting seasn. T ensure the results were nt due t lwer predatr numbers r different behavir in sme areas, the researchers flipped treatments again the next year and gt the same result.
Dr Nrbury and his cllabratrs’ mdels predicted that dr-treated sites resulted in a 127% increase in mdeled shrebird ppulatin size in 25 years. They als mentined that tricking cats and ferrets int ignring grund-nesting shrebirds using treatments f unrewarded bird drs was easy and inexpensive, with csts f abut $33 per hectare fr 30 days f treatment.
32. Hw did the shrebirds try t prtect themselves frm predatrs?
A. By seeking help frm humans.B. By scaring them away with smells.
C. By hiding their nests in safe places.D. By warning each ther f pssible danger.
33. What des the underlined wrd “undermine” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Weaken.B. Benefit.C. Supprt.D. Analyze.
34. What did the researchers d t prve their methds are effective?
A. They shwed the exact number f predatrs.
B. They set up as many cntrl sites as pssible.
C. They cllected the birds’ drs in different ways.
D. They perfrmed the same experiment nce mre.
35. What wuld be the best title fr the text?
A. Predatrs Are Learning t Identify Fake News
B. Shrebirds Can Easily Be Cheated by Humans
C. Fake News Can Spread Quickly Amng Shrebirds
D. Scientists Are Using Fake News t Prtect Shrebirds
