The Shirt f a Happy Man (Part Ⅰ)
A lng time ag, in a rich and beautiful cuntry, there lived an unhappy king. He slept badly and didn’t feel like eating anything. His face was always pale as chalk. He ften cried fr n reasn. This the queen and his peple wrried.
One day, a dctr was called in t examine the king. But he fund nthing wrng with his bdy. “It’s all in his mind. Neither medicine nr rest can help him. What he needs is the shirt f a happy persn t wear. That’ll make him happy.”
The prime minister was called t the palace. But when they explained the king’s situatin t him, he said, “Althugh I have a lt f pwer, it desn’t make me happy. I’m always wrried abut lsing my pwer. Many peple are trying t take my psitin.”
Then, the king’s banker came t the palace. “Oh, I’m afraid I’m nt happy either,” he said. “I have a lt f wealth, but I’m always wrried abut lsing my mney. Smene tries t steal my mney every day.”
Next, the palace singer came t the king’s rm. But this is what he said: “It’s true that I’m famus and everyne lves my sngs. But I’m nt happy because I’m always wrried abut being fllwed by thers. I cannt be free!”Finally, the king’s tp general was tld t g ut and find a happy man in three days’ time.

He slept badly and didn’t feel like eating anything. 他睡眠不好,而且不想吃东西。feel like ding sth.=want t d sth. 意为“想要做……”, 此处like为介词,意为“相似;类似;像”。例: I feel like ging ut fr a walk . = I want t g ut fr a walk. 我想出去散散步。

(1) 表示“摸起来像……”例:It feels like silk. 这东西摸起来像丝绸。(2) 表示“感觉像(是)……”例:My legs feel like cttn wl. 我感觉两条腿软得像棉花一样。
feel like 的其他用法
(3) 表示“有……的感觉”例:I’m surprised that he feels like that. 我奇怪他会有这种感觉。(4) 表示“给人的感觉(像)是……”例:I was nly there tw days, but it felt like a week. 我只在那里呆了两天,但好像过了一个星 期似的。(5) 表示“想吃或喝……”例:D yu feel like a drink? 你想喝点什么吗?
2. His face was always pale as chalk. 他总是面色 苍白。(as) pale as chalk 是一种明喻修辞结构, chalk是一种白色的石灰岩,汉语描述不健康的人面部颜色时常用“白”字,如“煞白;苍白;灰白”等等,英语常用pale来表达。例: Yu lk as pale as chalk tday. What’s wrng with yu? 今天你看着面色苍白,哪里不舒服吗?
3. One day, a dctr was called in t examine the king. 一天,一位医生被叫去为国王检查身体。 (1) call sb. in 意为“召来;叫来”。例:I called the plice in. 我叫来了警察。 (2) call sth. in 意为“下令收回;要求退回”。例:Cars with serius faults have been called in by manufacturers. 有严重缺陷的汽车 已经被生产商收回。
4. Neither medicine nr rest can help him. 无论是药物还是休息都帮不了他。 表示“既不……也 不……; ……和……都不”,其含义是否定的,可连 接任意两个并列的成份,谓语动词的单复数 采取“就近原则”。例:I have neither mney nr time. 我既没有钱也没有时间。 Neither Tm nr his sisters were at hme. 汤姆和珍都不在家。
(1) either… r….意为“或者……或者……;不是……就是……”,表示两者之一,连接句子中两个并列的成分,谓语动词的单复数采取“就近原则”。例:Either yu r I am ging there tmrrw. 明天要么你去那里,要么我去那里。(2) bth … and…表示“既……又……”, 连接任意两个并列成份,做主语是谓语动词用复数。例:Bth yu and I are ging there tmrrw. 明天我们俩都要去那里。
