Mst f the recipes in her bk use the needles frm the tree. “Yu’d use the needles like a herb,” she says.
“And different Christmas trees kind f have different flavrs. They’re quite subtle, but they d have different flavrs. S fir (冷杉), which is a really ppular chice f Christmas trees, gives peple better feeling and atmsphere. And then yu have pine, which is a little bit mre delicate.”
A warning: sme Christmas trees are pisnus if eaten — like cypress and cedars. And be sure yur tree wasn’t sprayed with pesticides (杀虫剂) and ther chemicals. “S if yu have any dubt that yur Christmas tree might nt have been grwn t eat, then maybe dn’t eat it,” Gergallis says.

Researchers in Australia have identified enzymes (酶) in the bdy f certain beetle larvae (甲虫幼虫) that can degrade r break dwn plastic. In a study published in Micrbial Genmics they write that these “superwrms” culd help reduce plastic waste in the future.
“Superwrms are like mini recycling plants, cutting up the plysyrene (聚苯乙烯) with their muths and then feeding it t the bacteria in their stmach,” said Chris Rinke frm the University f Queensland in Australia. “The breakdwn prducts frm this reactin can then be used by ther micrbes t create high-value chemicals.”
In the study, scientists divided beetle larvae int three grups, feeding ne grup wheat bran, ne plystyrene and ne nthing. Over three weeks, they mnitred their grwth. “We fund that superwrms fed a diet f just plystyrene nt nly survived, but even had marginal weight gains,” said Rinke. “This suggests the wrms can get energy frm the plystyrene, mst likely with the help f their stmach bacteria.”
On the ther hand, the plastic-fed wrms gained much less weight and were verall much less healthy than the bran-fed nes, thugh better ff than the starvatin grup. After three weeks, sme larvae were als set aside t grw int beetles, accrding t the study. Abut 93% f the bran-fed larvae frmed adult wrms, while abut 67% f the plastic-fed larvae and 10% f the starved larvae frmed adult wrms.
The researchers investigated the superwrm’s stmach bacteria t find the specific enzymes linked t plastic degradatin, writes Finna M. D. Samuels fr Scientific American. The enzyme that degrades the plystyrene appears t live with the stmach bacteria, nt the wrm itself.
Plystyrene is ne f the mst cmmn plastics used tday. But it’s nt very chemically reactive, and breaking it dwn with industrial recycling methds takes high heat. S, researchers have been lking fr plastic-degrading enzymes and bacteria fr years.
Further research will still need t be dne t figure ut hw t emply these wrms, bacteria and enzymes in recycling facilities.
    8. What des Chris Rinke cmpare superwrms t?

    C. Researchers’ effrts ver the years t recycle plastic.
    D. The necessity f finding ut a way t degrade plastic.
    11. What is the purpse f the text?
    A. T reprt a new way t recycle plastic.B. T call n peple t reduce plastic waste.
    C. T explain hw larvae can degrade plastic.D. T intrduce the findings f a new research.
    D
There is n dubt that when yu receive a cmpliment, yu feel gd and when yu receive a criticism, yu feel upset and want t refuse it.
Yu shuldn’t be surprised by yur reactin t the negative cmment, as it’s human’s survival mechanism t avid being criticized. Clearly, we dn’t want t be seen as failures, s we’d rather shut ur eyes and cver ur ears than have t take any criticisms frm thers.
Imagine yu’re learning t play the guitar, and yu have just dne yur first public perfrmance. Yur teacher says, “Yu did well,” which may nt be as useful in helping yu imprve yur perfrmance skills as “Yur timing needs sme wrk.” S I believe that criticisms are better than cmpliments.
N ne wuld argue that healthy nutritin is a bad thing. Hwever, t much fd r drink — n matter hw healthy they may be — can make us ill. T many cmpliments take us away frm ur riginal enthusiasm f enjying an activity. We start ding the activity nly fr the sake f receiving self-satisfying praise. Withut the expectatin f praise, ur enthusiasm t cmplete things begins t be lst.
Launched in 2010, Micrsft KIN nly lasted n the market fr 48 days. It was very bvius that mst 15 t 30-year-lds preferred Andrids, BlackBerrys and iPhnes t the Micrsft KIN. If criticism and feedback frm the target grup had been received while the phne was in develpment, Micrsft KIN culd have avided the huge embarrassment and its final failure.
Just t be clear, I’m talking abut cnstructive criticism, which I like t think f as “healthy criticism”. The right kind f criticism is hnest feedback that will benefit yu. Feedback frces yu t recnsider yur actins and the way yu wrk. If yu use cnstructive criticism wisely, it can guide yu away frm bad practices, giving yu supprt and curage t mve frward t be a better persn in the future.
    12. What can we learn abut cmpliment and criticism in Paragraph 1?
    A. Peple’s respnse t them.B. Peple’s ways t express them.
    C. Peple’s understanding f them.D. Peple’s different pinins n them.
    13. Hw wuld peple be when receiving t many cmpliments?
    A. Mre annyed.B. Mre satisfied.C. Less wrried.D. Less interested.
    14. Hw can healthy criticism be helpful accrding t the last paragraph?
    A. T encurage grwth.B. T develp intelligence.
    C. T avid embarrassment.D. T reduce enthusiasm.
    15. What is a suitable title fr the passage?
    A. Criticisms are better than cmpliments.
    B. Cnstructive criticism cntributes t better future.
    C. Hnest feedback cmes frm healthy criticism.
    D. Enugh enthusiasm is vital fr further develpment.

December is certainly the time f Christmas spirit and with that cmes a wave f kind acts — peple are ften much nicer and willing t be giving than any time f the year. While it seems like an expected sight, thankfully it still keeps surprising us. That’s just what I experienced while vlunteering with Santa’s Secret Shp at a lcal schl.
I vlunteered t help with Santa’s Secret Shp at the schl. Each child there paired up with a helper, mstly high schl senirs. There was ne guy with disabilities this afternn and when he was helping a kid next t me, he fund the kid was a little shrt f cash fr Christmas gifts, s this senir pened up his wallet. I suppsed they were brthers, and didn’t think much f it. Hwever, I nticed he was always hlding ut his helping hand and allwing ther children t chse gifts that were ut f their budgets. I felt curius and reprted my experience n Facebk and praised the mysterius yung man called Timmy Sweeney.
What did peple n the Internet think abut his actins? Many peple praised him, just as a pst said, “This kid has a heart f gld. I s wish there were mre kids like him!
