Beijing pera is ne f the ldest art frms in the wrld. Since the Tang Dynasty, perfrmers f Beijing Opera have been called “theatrical perfrmers(梨园弟子)”. During the Qing Dynasty, it became ppular amng rdinary peple.
Exaggerated designs(夸张的图案) are painted n each perfrmer's face t shw a character’s persnality, rle, and fate. Audiences wh are familiar with the pera can knw the stry by bserving the characters' facial paintings as well as their cstumes.
