What if yu culd use yur clthes t brwse the internet and send messages? A “digital clth” created by researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai is making this a reality.
Research n a new type f flexible textile (织物) with a display system that has multiple applicatins was published in the jurnal Nature n March 10.
A user can read messages, reply and even navigate n his sleeve, as shwn in a vide prduced by the team. The team claimed that the material is als cmfrtable t wear. “Clthes wven with this new material can clsely fllw the irregular utline f the human bdy and are as light and breathable as rdinary textiles, ensuring cmfrt,” said Peng Huisheng, leader f the team. The textile can als endure repeated flding and stretching. “Its brightness and stability remained almst unchanged after having been washed in a washing machine 500 times,” said Peng.
Behind the magical textile is ten years f hard wrk by Peng and his team. The research team created tw functinal fibers: a silver-plated thread that can light up, and a kind f thread that cnducts electricity. Accrding t The Paper, the biggest challenge lies in building prgrammable arrays (排列) f twinkling dts n the sft fibers with diameters ranging frm tens t hundreds f micrns. Inspired by the weaving prcess, Peng’s team fund a slutin by trial and errr: the interweaving (交织) f the crss threads can naturally frm a dt array similar t the array n a digital display screen.
Peng believes that the new clth culd be used fr many things. Fr example, it culd help peple with language barriers r disabilities better cmmunicate. In ne test, Peng’s team mnitred brainwaves frm vlunteers wh had either been playing a game r relaxing. The waves were then translated int messages as “anxius” r “relaxed” and shwn n the clth. This culd help hearing-impaired peple “talk” t each ther in the future.
“We hpe that new materials will shape next generatin electrnic devices by changing the way we interact with them,” Peng tld AFP.
41.What can we learn abut the “the digital clth”?
A.It is an electrnic device attached t sleeves.

Likely t suffer frm lss f memry frm time t time? Smart cameras can nw remind yu.
Khai Trung at the University f Trnt in Canada and his clleagues have created a smartphne app that recrds interactins with husehld bjects. The system invlves a barcde-like markers that the user sticks t bjects whse use they wuld like t track.
With the smartphne wrn arund yur neck, the app autmatically recrds a shrt vide clip when a marked bject cmes int view. “The user is able t lk thrugh the applicatin and see the last time they interacted with it.” says Trung. The app can help peple track the state f bjects — such as whether they lcked a dr r switched a light ff — as well as rutine actins. At present it successfully recrds abut 75% f interactins, but nly wrks fr fixed bjects.
A similar but separate system can slve the prblem. E. Akin Sisbt and Jnathan Cnnell at IBM Research in New Yrk have invented a ceiling-munted (安装在天花板上的) camera that mnitrs bjects and peple. It cntinuusly watches an area such as a tabletp in yur hme, tracking the placement f bjects in relatin t ne anther. It als remembers wh first brught an bject int the field f view as well as anyne mved it fr afterwards. When asked, “Where is my wallet?” the system might respnd, “It is next t the vase, under the magazines.”
The camera culd als be used in factries r perating theatres t track a vital tls, says Sisbt. Fr nw, the camera uses a deep sensr t spt things. It is limited t detecting bjects thicker than 3 centimeters, meaning that it has truble with thin bjects such as a clsed laptp placed flat n a table.
The accuracy f such smart camera systems may need t imprve befre they are widely adpted. “Yu’ve gt t trust the technlgy fr it t be f any cmfrt r reassurance.” says Geffrey Ward at the University f Essex in UK.

C.It fails t find bjects thinner than 3 centimeters.
D.It hardly senses bjects withut barcde-like markers.
49.What is Geffrey Ward’s attitude twards smart camera systems?
    A.Neutral.B.Supprtive.
    C.Skeptical.D.Oppsed.

“Girls are weak, and bys are strng. This is what is being subcnsciusly cmmunicated t hundreds f millins f yung bys and girls all ver the wrld, just like it was with me,” said American actr Justin Baldni. As a by, all he wanted was t be accepted by ther peple. That acceptance meant he had t pretend t be strng when he was weak, cnfident when he felt insecure, and tugh when he was actually hurting.
Is that a healthy lifestyle? A member f the CPPCC Standing Cmmittee might say “yes”. In his prpsal, he spke f a need t “prevent the feminizatin f male yuths”. In respnse t his call, China’s Ministry f Educatin has recently demanded that schls shuld hire mre physical educatin teachers and imprve teaching methds t cultivate masculinity in students.
The respnse has been widely debated nline, with many peple saying that it reinfrces gender steretypes. The state bradcaster CCTV wrte n its Weib accunt, “Educatin is nt simply abut cultivating men and wmen. It’s mre imprtant t develp a willingness t take respnsibility.” Yu might be wndering nw: What is masculinity, and why is this s cntrversial?
Well, by itself, “masculinity” refers t the qualities traditinally cnsidered t be typical f men. While there is nt really a single “crrect” set f qualities, the term is ften assciated with strength, curage, assertiveness, and emtinal cntrl. Smetimes, hwever, these seemingly admirable qualities can be extended in unrealistic ways. But bys are als human. Blindly asking them t cntrl their feelings “like a man” can nly increase their stress when they grw up.
As an educatr wh has spent years teaching in China, I agree that attaching mre imprtance t physical educatin wuld definitely benefit students. Sprts prvide pprtunities fr physical fitness. Mre imprtantly, they can help develp lifelng skills, such as leadership and cmmunicatin skills. Hwever, putting the emphasis n masculinity is far frm a sund reasn fr which t d s.
It is unnecessary fr all bys t build up their muscles, but it is essential that they all learn hw t be strng inside. It is als fine fr bys t cry and t shw their weakness. Schls shuld wrk n equipping students with the skills and values they will need t be successful in life, nt reinfrcing steretypes f masculinity brrwed frm a bygne age.
51.Why did yung Justin Baldni think it necessary t pretend t be what he was actually nt?
A.He was trying t be strng and cnfident.
B.He wanted t be accepted as a real man.
C.It was necessary fr an actr t be strng and tugh.
    D.He felt it secure and safe t d s.
52.The underlined expressin “masculinity” in Paragraph 2 mst prbably means “__________”
    A.manly qualitiesB.ptential abilities
    C.self-centrednessD.steady strength
53.What is the argument against the demand f China’s Ministry f Educatin?
A.It is necessary t prevent the feminizatin f male yuths.
B.Physical educatin shuld be paid mre attentin t.
C.We shuld teach students accrding t their individual qualities.
D.Imprtance shuld be attached t develping students’ sense f respnsibility.
54.What can we learn frm the passage?
    A.Masculinity is ut f date.
    B.Masculinity is verstated.
    C.Masculinity shws physical strength.
D.Masculinity nly fcuses n physical fitness.
55.What des the authr want t say in the article?
A.We shuld d everything we can t guarantee students’ health.
B.Schls shuld differentiate between bys and girls while educating them.
C.It is imprtant t prepare students with necessary skills and right values.
D.It is time t weaken steretypes f masculinity.
