His interest in phtgraphy had been sparked fur years earlier in 1930, when the wildlife phtgrapher Cherry Keartn came t Suthsea, Ashby's hme twn, t present a shw f his wrk. The 12-year-ld Ashby saw the shw and immediately started saving his pcket mney t buy a camera fr filming wildlife in the nearby New Frest. But Ashby's films did nt reach the public due t the Wrld War II.
In 1953, he and his wife Eileen mved t Badger (獾) Cttage, in the heart f the New Frest. It was here that Ashby perfected the techniques that wuld make him famus thrugh the new medium f televisin. His patience and technical knwledge allwed him t film badgers at their hles during daylight — the first time this behaviur had ever been captured n camera.
In 1961, at the age f 43, Ashby finally gt his big break, when the BBC shwed his 45-minute film The Unknwn Frest. The film had taken fur years t make and received a very psitive respnse frm viewers. The nature writer Richard Mabey was hugely impressed and remarked that the film "changed the standards fr hme-grwn wildlife dcumentaries".
After the film was shwn, he was given the nickname "the silent watcher". The nickname nt nly stuck, it became the title f his secnd film.
In 1963, Ashby made the first British wildlife film in clur, althugh it tk fur years befre The Majr appeared in its full glry, as the BBC did nt bradcast (播放) in clur until 1967.
He was awarded the Ryal Gegraphical Sciety's Cherry Keartn Medal and Award in 1975 and in 1992 received an MBE. He died, aged 85, n 6 February 2003, but his legacy lives n.

The rise f the rbts has raised the pssibility f a future where there is simply less wrk fr humans t d. T tired ffice wrkers, a wrld where we all have a bit mre leisure time sunds rather nice. Yet what really matters is hw wrk will be distributed acrss the wrkfrce.
The recent study shws there is n reasn t believe it will be evenly (均衡地) spread. The length f the average wrking week in the U.K. has declined steadily frm abut 59 hurs in the mid-19th century t 32 hurs in 2009. But averages hide a lt.
While trends amng wmen have been stable, there have been big shifts amng men. Males in well-paid full-time emplyment are nw wrking slightly lnger hurs n average than tw decades ag. Meanwhile, men in full-time emplyment at the bttm f the wage ladder are wrking much less.
On tp f that, the number f lw-paid men wh wrk part-time has increased sharply. Twenty years ag, ne in twenty men with lw hurly wages wrked part-time; tday it is ne in five. Analysis by the Institute fr Fiscal Studies shws this phenmenn is nly happening amng the lw-paid. In better-paying jbs, part-time men are still fairly rare. Gender rles within families might tend t be similar t. Lw-paid men may be chsing t shulder mre childcare respnsibilities s their partners can return t wrk.
Yet it is clear that the distributin f wrk will matter t peple. Britain has bth veremplyment and underemplyment prblems: Official data shw 3.4 millin peple in Britain want t wrk mre hurs while 3.2 millin want t wrk few hurs fr less pay. The underemplyed are likely t be waiters r cleaners. The veremplyed are mst likely t be dctrs r chief executives. This indicates an ecnmy where demand and supply f skills are ut f sync.
Nbdy knws fr sure hw the next wave f autmatin will shake up demand fr different skills. Perhaps dctrs will gain the free time they desire. Others might find themselves in greater demand. But shrt f sme develping a much better system fr training peple quickly fr the jbs ecnmy needs, it seems likely that in the future—as nw—there will be t much wrk fr sme, and t little fr thers.
8.What can be inferred frm the first tw paragraphs?
    A. The develpment f rbts will get rid f humans’ wrk.
    B. Future leisure time will be allcated evenly acrss the wrkfrce.
    C. The U.K. has taken sme measures t stp the decline f wrking hurs.
    D. The averages may nt be the accurate indicatrs f the uneven distributin f wrking hurs.
9.What can we learn frm the analysis by the Institute fr Fiscal Studies?
    A. Lw-paid men are t blame fr the lw emplyment.
    B. Mre well-paid men are chsing t wrk part-time.
    C. Part-time men have increased nly amng the lw-paid.
    D. Part-time men rarely shulder childcare respnsibilities.
10.What d the underlined wrds “ut f sync” mean in Paragraph 5?
    A. Imprtant.B. ImbalancedC. Undubted.D. Harmful.
11.What is the text mainly abut?
    A. The ttal amunt f human labr will be decreased.
    B. Better training systems will be built acrss the wrld.
    C. Rbts cntribute t uneven distributin acrss the wrkfrce.
    D. The number f lw-paid men wh wrk part-time has increased.
As yu read this, pause t reflect n yur recent interactins. As a plitician, husband, and father, I encunter varius spken language styles: analytical r chatty, frmal r infrmal, pinted r gentle, cperative r decisive. Talk is the currency f plitics. It is ur way f negtiating, debating, and persuading. Talk is als the currency f learning—hw we develp ur ideas, deepen ur thinking and share ur feelings.
That's why I want speaking skills, smetimes called "racy", t play an imprtant part in Labr's plans fr a refrmed schl curriculum (课程) .
Emplyers value speaking skills equally with reading and writing. The ability t speak well and express yurself shuld be smething every child shuld master. But the curriculum desn't allw us t prvide this. This is shrt-sighted. An inability t express yur thughts fluently is a key barrier t getting n and ding well in life.
Oracy is in part abut gd public speaking and debating skills, but in reality, it's abut teaching yung peple t make strng arguments, chse wise wrds, understand their audience, frm meaningful scial cnnectins, and use facial expressins and bdy language t cnvey their message. Abve all else it's abut finding yur vice. T wrk ut wh yu are and what yu believe. If reading pens up a wrld f imaginatin and pssibility, then speaking and listening pens up a lifetime f empwerment—a chance fr thse wh feel invisible in their wn cuntry t be heard. It is abut the cnfidence t speak ut, t call ut injustice r harm.
And the ther side f speaking is listening, which can als be taught. Listening, truly listening, develps tlerance and understanding. And as parents we can play ur part. We've all been there, at mealtimes, silent as we all stare at ur devices. Our jb, all f urs, is t get ff ur screens and give yung peple, and adults, the gift f listening.
S, racy—speaking and listening—needs t be placed firmly at the heart f schl life.
12.Hw des talk help a plitician?
    A. It strengthens persuasive pwer. B. It enhances his analytical skills.
    C. It deepens his wishful thinking. D. It prvides emtinal supprt.
13.Why des the authr suggest a refrm in the British schl curriculum?
    A. Emplyers underestimate the value f speaking.
    B. Oracy shuld deserve mre attentin at schl.
    C. Spken language is regarded as least imprtant.
    D. Academic pressure makes students pr-sighted.
14.Hw des the authr illustrate his argument in paragraph 4?

    C. By clarifying the definitin. D. By describing persnal experiences.
