Accrding t Brazilian sil scientist Carls Schaefer, the temperature was dcumented during a 20-year-lng research prject. The fcus f this prject is t study the effect that climate change has n the permafrst (永久冻土) within the regin. Permafrst is sil that stays frzen fr at least tw years. Althugh this is a recrd high fr Antarctica, Schaefer stressed that “We can't use this t anticipate climatic changes in the future. It's simply a signal that smething different is happening in that area.”
But in fact, the last high temperature reading was in the 19 ℃ range. These higher temperatures can cause ice and glaciers (冰川) in Antarctic regins t melt. Lts f kids like t talk abut sprts, but Jseph D’Avirr talks abut sprts like a prfessinal hst in a shw called Sliders & Curveballs. The 9-year-ld frm Newingtn, Cnnecticut is a natural at sprts talk and has been bradcasting the shw—which is abut baseball, basketball and ther sprts—with his dad, Mike D’Avirr, since September 2019.
The D’Avirr started the bradcast after tw frmer cllege rmmates f Mike died, which made Mike want t spend mre time with his sn. Then the idea came t him. S far, they have dne abut 50 prgrams. The father and sn make abut ne 30- t 40-minute pdcast each mnth. They prepare fr the pdcasts by deciding n the questins they want t ask the guest. Jseph asks half f the questins, and Mike handles the ther half. Jseph reads his questins again and again t get them in his brain well. The elderly residents in care hmes in Lndn are being given hens t lk after t stp them feeling lnely.
The prject was dreamed up by a lcal charity t reduce lneliness and imprve elderly peple's wellbeing. It is als being used t help patients suffering dementia, a serius illness f the mind. Staff in care hmes have reprted are ductin in the use f medicine where hens are in use.
Amng thse taking part in the prject is 80-year-ld-Ruth Xavier. She said: "I used t keep hens when I was yunger and had t prepare their breakfast each mrning befre I went t schl.
“I like the prject a lt. I am dwn there in my wheelchair in the mrning letting the hens ut and dwn there again at night t see they've gne t bed.
“It's gd t have a different fcus. Peple have been bringing their children in t se the hens and residents cme and sit utside t watch them. I'm enjying the creative activities, and it feels great t have dne smething useful.”

On Feb 9, Brazilian researchers at Seymur Island reprted a temperature f 20. 75 ℃ n the icy cntinent f Antarctica. It was almst a full degree higher than the previus recrd f 19. 8 ℃, taken n Signy Island in January 1982.
This recrd-breaking reading was taken at a mnitring statin in the nrthern part f Antarctica. Accrding t Brazilian sil scientist Carls Schaefer, the temperature was dcumented during a 20-year-lng research prject. The fcus f this prject is t study the effect that climate change has n the permafrst (永久冻土) within the regin. Permafrst is sil that stays frzen fr at least tw years. Althugh this is a recrd high fr Antarctica, Schaefer stressed that “We can't use this t anticipate climatic changes in the future. It's simply a signal that smething different is happening in that area.”
But in fact, the last high temperature reading was in the 19 ℃ range. These higher temperatures can cause ice and glaciers (冰川) in Antarctic regins t melt. The Antarctic peninsula (半岛) —the lng finger f land that stretches tward Argentina— is mst dramatically affected.
