When White met the pit bull puppy in 2018, Darby was yung, playful, strng as an x. Then, in the summer f 2019, came Darby’s date with destiny.

Have yu heard f shikumen huses (石库门) in Shanghai? It is a type f architecture that cmbines Western culture and traditinal Chinese residential characteristics. It uses stne as dr frames (门框) and slid wd in black lacquer (漆) as dr leaves (门扇) . Over the past 100 years,many significant histrical events have been seen in shikumen huses, such as the first Natinal Cngress f the Cmmunist Party f China in 1921.
Unfrtunately, many Shanghai lcals dn’t even knw abut shikumen huses, and they are disappearing due t the develpment f the city. T make a difference, a grup f students frm Shanghai Internatinal Studies University has established a studi called “Meeting Shikumen”. “We prbably can’t stp them frm disappearing,” said Mei Zi, 18, the leader f the grup. “But we want t let mre peple knw that shikumen huses exist.”
Starting in 2022, the students pened accunts n WeChat and Instagram t share infrmatin abut shikumen huses, such as the significance f their architectural design and hw they reflect Shanghai culture.
