    POTATO CHIPS
One f the wrld’s favrite snacks is the result f a cmplaint. In 1853, a man was eating dinner at Mn’s Lake Huse in Saratga Springs, New Yrk. He rdered fried ptates, a ppular side dish. But when they came ut f the kitchen, he didn’t think they were crispy enugh. He sent them back t the kitchen, where Chef Gerge Crum was s angry at having his cking criticized that he sliced the ptates really thin, put lts f salt n them, and fried them. Nt nly did the diner lve them, but everyne else did, t. They sn became a specialty f the restaurant.
    TOFU
Tfu, r bean curd, is made by curdling(使凝结)fresh sya milk, pressing it int a slid blck, and then cling it. Tfu was accidentally invented in China mre than 2,000 years ag, when a ck added seaweed t sya milk, which made it curdle. This is the same prcess that is used fr making cheese. Like cheese, tfu is a great example f hw really messing up a recipe can create smething unexpectedly gd.
    CHEESE PUFFS
Did yu ever wnder wh thught up cheese puffs? The cmpany that invented them wasn’t even trying t make fd fr peple. It was trying t make animal fd. In the 1930s, the Flakall Cmpany f Wiscnsin made animal fd frm small, flaked piece f grain. One day, an emplyee, Edward Wilsn, watched wrkers puring cmmeal(谷粉)int the flaking machine, wetting it t keep it frm clgging(堵塞). Because the machine was very ht, the wet crnmeal came ut f it in puffy ribbns that hardened when they hit the air. Wilsn tk sme f the ribbns hme, added il and flavring t them, and vila! Cheese puffs!

All the Beauty in the Wrld, Patrick Bringley’s memir(回忆录)abut his 10 years wrking as a guard at New Yrk’s Metrplitan Museum f Art(Met) brings new meaning t the term “art appreciatin”. Bringley is nt the nly Met staffer t write abut the institutin. But Bringley’s “guard’s-eye view” is unique, and he presents his persnal stry with sincerity. After his brther Tm’s death frm cancer in 2008, Bringley gave up his jb as a jurnalist fr a jb in which“I was happy t be ging nwhere”. He explains, “I had lst smene. I did nt wish t mve n frm that. In a sense, I didn’t wist t mve at all.” Bringley desn’t say when he decided t channel his experience f finding peace int art, but this stry abut jumping ff the career ladder in rder t find the space fr quiet reflectin is surprisingly suited t ur times.
All the Beauty in the Wrld ffers well-chsen facts abut the museum t supprt Bringley’s persnal tale. As interesting as these facts are, it’s Bringley’s reflectins n dzens f individual paintings, phtgraphs, sculptures and ancient artifacts that turn this bk int a tribute(致敬)t the pwer f art. Discussing Alfred Stieglitz’s phtgraphs f his wife, he writes, “I think that smetimes we need permissin t stp and adre things, and a wrk f art gives us that.” In a Vermeer prtrait f a dzing maidservant, he is mved t see that the artist caught “that feeling we smetimes have that a private setting pssesses a hliness(神圣)f its wn. It was my cnstant feeling in Tm’s hspital rm”.
As rich in mving insights as the Met is in treasures, All the Beauty in the Wrld reminds us f the imprtance f learning nt abut art, but frm it. This is art appreciatin at a high level.

Whenever I rder fd fr delivery, I play a little game t guess hw many sets f tableware(餐具)the restaurant will prvide. Smetimes restaurants will thrw in tw, three r fur sets fr just ne rder. But I rarely need any at all, and the waste ges int the trash r cllects dust in a kitchen drawer.
Researchers wrking with Chinese technlgy grup Alibaba tried a simple apprach t this prblem. Instead f just wastefully thrwing ut tableware, the cmpany required fd-delivery custmers in sme cities in China t pick hw many sets f tableware they wanted t receive. The default(默认设置)was set at zer. The result, published tday in the jurnal Science, was a 63.8% increase in the share f n-tableware rders. If applied acrss China, researchers fund, the apprach wuld save nearly 22 billin sets f plastic tableware. The study desn’t cver carbn emissins, but it’s safe t say that the impact wuld be significant. T nudge custmers t eat better, fr example, a restaurant might rganize its menu by listing heathy ptins finest and bury unhealthy nes at the bttm. Mre recently, sme big cmpanies like Ggle have als begun t use nudges t advance climate bjectives.
Behaviral ecnmics bradly and nudges mre specifically, aren’t withut cntrversy(公开辩论). Sme might think it assigns cnsumers respnsibility fr addressing envirnmental challenges. But there is anther way t lk at it. In the absence f necessary plicy —and plicy is needed—cmpanies can help encurage a widespread shift f cnsumer behavir.
And all f that behaviral change can add up. The Internatinal Energy Agency fund in 2021 that small behaviral changes in energy cnsumptin such as walking instead f driving and adjusting the thermstat(恒温器)culd in ttal shave ff 4% f glbal emissins. The mre that cmpanies can d t facilitate such changes, the better.

    D. It implies bad behaviur impacts ecnmy.

    A. Nudge thery affects behavirs.
    B. Gd behavirs bst ecnmy.
    C. Nudging helps build a greener wrld.
    D. Behaviral ecnmics benefits custmers.

that disrganized chas is fine as lng as they can prvide an autmated search prduct t sift(筛查)thrugh the mess, smething mre tech, even if tech created the prblem in the first place.
