It makes me feel cnnected t peple in a way that I just can’t seem t anymre, nw that I have a wife and kids.
I’m learning, but I had a relapse (复发) recently. I jined a new text grup. I intrduced my “questin f the day” feature. I fled myself int thinking that I was encuraging a healthy debate n current events. N. Others in the grup saw it as me trying t prve that my way was the right way. Then I made the mistake f sharing sme persnal infrmatin that ne friend had tld me during a phne cnversatin. I thught everyne knew. Few peple realize it, but glaciers (冰川) are full f tiny air bubbles (气泡). They frm as snw, accumulating ver thusands f years, slwly packs int ice under its wn weight — squishing the air that was trapped between snwflakes int tiny hles. Erin Pettit, a scientist, and her clleagues had suspected that bubbles culd be imprtant. T test this idea, they undertk a series f labratry experiments.
They find that as the ice melted, the resulting fresh water rse, because it was less dense than the surrunding sea water. This created a rising current alng the vertical face f the ice — a prf f what ccurs at the frnt f a real tidewater glacier. When the glacial ice melted, the current that it prduced was six times faster than what was seen with the bubble-free ice because the rising bubbles pulled the water up mre quickly. The glacial ice melted 2.25 times mre quickly than the bubble-free ice. “That’s a very pwerful effect. If that’s the reality in nature, then it’s quite serius.”
The newly discvered bubble effect culd explain sme f that extra melting, says Mathieu Mrlighem, a scientist. “It’s imprving ur understanding, but it’s nt painting a darker picture f what’s happening tday,” he says.
Pettit ntes that in Alaska, many bays with tidewater glaciers have large ppulatins f harbr seals. The animals shelter there while mlting and raising babies. But in Glacier Bay, where the tidewater glaciers retreated (后退) many miles inland, the seal ppulatins have declined. Pettit nw suspects that the raring rhythm f explding bubbles prvides a hiding place where seals can avid detectin by killer whale, which ften find their victim by listening. The bubbles may mask the seals’ sunds — at least until the ice retreats ut f hearing. This may turn ut t be yet anther way in which these tiny bubbles have surprisingly large-scale effects.

    A. Dubtful.B. Favrable.C. Disapprving.D. Cautius.
11.What effect des the last paragraph reflect?

    解析:①考查时态。句意:一百多年来,武汉绢花一直沿用宫廷传统的绢花制作工艺。结合前面的“Over the past hundred years”可知,句子使用现在完成时,同时主语是单数,故填 has adpted。
    ②考查代词。句意:它汲取了中国各地民间绢花制作技艺的精华,又在源远流长、工艺精湛的传统花艺基础上不断完善。根据句意,此处表示使它自己完美,作perfect的宾语,应该填反身代词itself。
