One part f the ath (誓言) taken by physicians requires us t “remember that there is art t medicine, and that warmth, sympathy and understanding may utweigh the surgen’s knife r the chemist’s drug.” When I, alng with my medical schl class, recited that ath at my white cat ceremny a year ag, I admit that I was mre fcused n the bimedical aspects than the “art”.
Actually, medical prfessinals can get t easily caught up in treating t remember there is still space fr healing. As dctrs learn t cmmunicate with patients beynd the limited language f physical indicatrs, drug prtcls (规程) and surgical interventins that may g against healing, they are reaching fr new tls — petry.
One clinical trial studied the effect f music r petry n the pain, depressin, and hpe scres f 65 adult patients under cancer treatment. They fund that bth types f art therapy (疗法) prduced similar imprvements in pain and depressin scres. Only petry, hwever, increased hpe scres, Researchers assumed that petry can break the s-called law f silence, accrding t which talking abut ne’s perceptin f illness is tab (禁忌). After listening t petry, ne participant said, “I feel calmer when I hear thse wrds. They shw me that I’m nt alne.”
Insights like these are already making their way int the clinic. Sarah Friebert runs a care center where children are visited by a writer wh helps them create pems and stries fr publicatin. Enc Elshtain uses petry n the wards t teach children the pwer f self-expressin. He’s fund that many f his patients write haikus abut things like sprts r their favrite stuffed animal, rather than their experience in a hspital bed. Petry, as he said, is a way t bth accept the hspital encunter and escape frm it.
While a pem a day wn’t cure, it might help relieve. I’ve decided that I’ll learn hw t meet my patients beynd the chart dcuments; that I will encurage them t write their wn stries; that I will heal as well es treat. In ther wrds, I’ll hnr each and every wrd in the ath I tk last year.
21.Accrding t the text, the authr is prbably ______.

A.A news reprt.B.A research paper.C.A public speech.D.An applicatin letter.

In her bk The Life-Changing Magic f Tidying Up, Marie Knd makes the case that decluttering (清理杂物) can dramatically transfrm yur life. Ridding yur spaces f unused and unwanted stuff can make yu happier, mre cnfident and maybe even slimmer.
Judging by the ppularity f her message and methd, Knd’s philsphy satisfies many peple’s need. Yet the evidence backing the benefits f decluttering is mixed.
ne 2013 study fund that rderly spaces prmte healthy chices but als cnventinal thinking, while wrking in a messy r disrganized space prmtes creativity and new ideas. Einstein, famusly, had a very untidy desk and has been quted as saying, “If a cluttered desk is a sign f a cluttered mind, f what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”
Anther study linked physical clutter (杂乱) t lwer levels f life satisfactin. But ne f the authrs f that study says that clutter, rather than a prblem in and f itself, seems t be a symptm f ther prblems, especially unchecked cnsumerism “In this sciety f abundance we live in, I think the idea that we have t have mre makes us less satisfied with life,” says Jseph Ferrari, c-authr f the study. “It isn’t abundance that’s the prblem as much as attachment t abundance.”
Other psychlgists say technlgy may als be cntributing t America’s keenness fr rganizatin. The cmplexity and disrderliness f life nline encurages many peple t seek rder in their physical spaces, Dr. Ddgen Magee says. “But then yu find when yur rm r yur inbx is rganized, yur wrld hasn’t stpped being cmplex,” she says. At this pint, many peple decide even mre rganizing is needed, she says. But this can lead t uncntrllable tidying and, unavidably, a sense f failure when yu just can’t keep things as neat and rderly as yu’d like them t be, she explains.
“The mre f a mess ur internal wrld becmes, the mre likely we are t grab nt smething that gives us this sense f peace,” she says. While a little tidying can be a calming distractin, she says, it’s a temprary bandage, nt a cure.
25.What d we knw abut Knd’s philsphy?
A.It’s based n slid evidence.B.It invlves spirit-lifting methds.
C.It’s ppular with many peple.D.It leads peple t recycle unused stuff.
26.What des the example f Einstein serve t shw?
A.An empty desk is a sign f an empty mind.
B.Orderly wrkspaces can bring health benefits.
C.An untidy desk can damage wrking efficiency.
D.Messy envirnments are likely t encurage creativity.
27.What des Jseph Ferrari say abut physical clutter?
A.It determines peple’s life satisfactin.B.It cntributes t unchecked cnsumerism.
C.It reflects peple’s attachment t technlgy.D.It arises frm the desire fr mre pssessins.
28.What can be inferred abut tidying frm the last tw paragraphs?
A.It can lead t a feeling f frustratin.B.It makes peple’s wrld mre cmplex.
C.It can prvide lasting peace f mind.D.It wrks better with the help f technlgy.

All human languages use vwels (元音) and cnsnants (辅音) t express ideas. Mst primates cmmunicate almst using vwel-like calls, but nn-human great apes, like chimpanzees, prduce cnsnant-like sunds t varying degrees. This raises the questin f where cnsnants riginated frm, says Adrian Lameira at the University f Warwick. T find it ut, he studied existing literature t see hw cmmn cnsnants are amng the great apes.
He fund that rangutans (红毛猩猩), which spend mst f their time in the trees, prduce a greater number and variety f cnsnant sunds than grillas and chimpanzees living n the grund. “Orangutans have rich sunds like kiss sunds, scrapes and clicks.” says Lameira. They typically use these sunds while building nests r cmmunicating with their yung.
Lameira thinks that living in the trees may explain that Great apes are experts at prcessing prtected fds, like nuts, which ften requires tls. While living in trees, hwever, rangutans must always use at least ne arm t maintain stability. They have therefre develped mre cmplex cntrl f their lips, tngues and jaws, allwing them t use their muths as a “fifth arm” rangutans can peel (剥) ranges just with lips, fr example.
This advanced mtr skill enables rangutans make cnsnant-like sunds, argues Lameira. This culd mean that ur early ancestrs develped cnsnant sunds while hanging arund in the trees, t. “There’s a grwing sense that ur dependency n trees was much heavier than expected,” says Lameira.
The link between feeding and sunds desn’t apply t smaller tree-living primates like mnkeys, argues Lameira, because their size and tails make them mre stable n branches and they eat differently.
“This is an interesting assumptin wrth testing,” says Chris Petkv at Newcastle University, thugh he challenges sme aspects. As humans aren’t tree-living, there must be ther reasns why cnsnants remain, which culd be tested by characterizing cnsnant-like sunds mre systematically acrss species, he says.
29.What des the underlined wrd “it” in paragraph 1 refer t?
A.Why vwels and cnsnants are used.B.What ideas the cnsnants express.
C.Where the cnsnants are traced back.D.Hw cmmn the cnsnants are.
30.What fact can supprt Adrian Lameira’s assumptin abut rangutans?
A.They build nests with their yung.B.They are skilful in emplying tls.
C.They shw stability in cntrlling arms.D.They gain advanced mtr skill f muths.
31.What can we infer frm Adrian Lameira’s findings?
A.Cnsnant sunds were made by ur earliest ancestrs.
B.Our ancestrs cunted mre n trees than thught.
C.The link between feeding and sunds applies t mnkeys.
D.Mnkeys differ frm rangutans in eating habits.
32.What is Chris Petkv’s attitude t Adrian Lameira’s assumptin?

根据第三段中“They fund that bth types f art therapy (疗法) prduced similar imprvements in pain and depressin scres. Only petry, hwever, increased hpe scres.(他们发现,这两种艺术疗法对疼痛和抑郁评分的改善程度相似。然而,只有诗歌提高了希望分数。)”可知,在临床试验的研究中,诗歌对于疼痛和抑郁有着改善作用,即诗歌使人们对自己的疾病敞开心扉。故选B。
23.推理判断题。根据第一段中“When I, alng with my medical schl class, recited that ath at my white cat ceremny a year ag, I admit that I was mre fcused n the bimedical aspects than the “art”.(一年前,当我和医学院的同学们一起在毕业典礼上宣读这一誓言时,我承认我更关注生物医学方面。

根据第二段中“Judging by the ppularity f her message and methd, Knd’s philsphy satisfies many peple’s need.(从她的想法和方法的受欢迎程度来看,Knd的哲学满足了许多人的需求。)” “Yet the evidence backing the benefits f decluttering is mixed.”
根据第三段“One 2013 study fund that rderly spaces prmte healthy chices but als cnventinal thinking, while wrking in a messy r disrganized space prmtes creativity and new ideas. Einstein, famusly, had a very untidy desk and has been quted as saying, “If a cluttered desk is a sign f a cluttered mind, f what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”(2013年的一项研究发现,有序的空间会促进健康的选择,但也会促进传统思维,而在凌乱或杂乱无章的空间中工作,则会促进创造力和新想法。众所周知,爱因斯坦有一张非常凌乱的桌子,有人引用他的话说:“如果凌乱的桌子是凌乱的大脑的标志,那么空桌子是什么标志呢?”)”可推知,这里用桌子凌乱但拥有巨大创造力的爱因斯坦的例子是为了佐证前面的观点:凌乱的环境有可能促进创造力。故选D项。
27.细节理解题。根据第四段中““In this sciety f abundance we live in, I think the idea that we have t have mre makes us less satisfied with life,” says Jseph Ferrari, cauthr f the study. “It isn’t abundance that’s the prblem as much as attachment t abundance.”(该研究的共同作者Jseph Ferrari说:“在我们生活的这个富足的社会里,我认为我们必须拥有更多的想法会让我们对生活不满意。问题不在于富足,而在于对富足的依恋。”)”可知,Jseph Ferrari认为物理上的杂乱源于人们内心对于富足的依恋,人们渴望拥有更多东西。故选D项。
28.推理判断题。根据最后两段,尤其是倒数第二段中“But this can lead t uncntrllable tidying and, unavidably, a sense f failure when yu just can’t keep things as neat and rderly as yu’d like them, t be, she explains.(但这可能会导致不可控制的整理,当你不能像你希望的那样保持东西整洁有序时,不可避免地会有一种失败感,她解释说。)” 故选A项。

根据最后一段的““This is an interesting assumptin wrth testing,” says Chris Petkv at Newcastle University, thugh he challenges sme aspects. As humans aren’t tree-living, there must be ther reasns why cnsnants remain, which culd be tested by characterising cnsnant-like sunds mre systematically acrss species, he says.(“这是一个值得检验的有趣假设,”Newcastle大学的Chris Petkv说,尽管他对某些方面提出了质疑。他说,由于人类不是在树上生活的,所以辅音保留下来一定有其他原因,这可以通过在不同物种之间更系统地描述类似辅音的声音来验证。)”可知,Chris Petkv对Adrian Lameira的假设的态度是谨慎的,故选D。

Three years later, in July 2009, Vance died. He was an avid athlete, his grandchildren said, and spent a few years playing minr league baseball until be was drafted int the military. After serving in the army fr tw years, be went n t becme the administrative directr fr the Virginia Department f Health.
Grwing up, Betty (wh smetimes as Betty Sue) lived in Prillaman’s current huse with her family, and the hme was subsequently passed t Daltn’s father, Randy Lng. Like their grandmther, Daltn and his brther, Bdhie, 23, grew up in that huse. Betty and Vance mved t anther huse n the same street.
“The fact that we didn’t find them befre Anna was kind f crazy,” Bdhie said f the letters. “They were just sitting in ur attic the entire time we were grwing up and we had n idea.”
The Lng brthers were clse with their paternal grandparents - whm they called “B” and “Pp” - mainly because “they lived five drs dwn,” Bdhie said: “Our grandparents were a huge influence in ur lives. We were arund them as much as we were arund ur parents.”
Still, they knew little abut bw their grandparents’ relatinship started, as they nly witnessed the final 15 years f their marriage, which spanned half-a-century.
“As I age, I have a newfund appreciatin fr recgnising that my grandparents and the elders in my family have led cmplete and full lives that I will never fully understand r really knw abut,” said Daltn. “T be able t get a better glimpse int them, I think that’s rally interesting.”
That’s why Pillaman was adamant abut reuniting the family with the lng-lst heirlms. “Mst f us dn’t knw the curtship stry f ur grandparents. It’s just nt infrmatin we’re privy t,” she said.
The unexpected letter discvery is even mre meaningful, the brthers explained, because their father died tw years ag. “It’s really exciting t be able t recnnect with that side f the family,” said Daltn, wh plans t frame sme f the ntes.
If their grandparents knew they were reading their ld lve litters, “I think my grandfather wuld be tickled, and my grandmther wuld prbably be a little mrtified,” Daltn said.
Althugh the brthers have yet t see all the letters, their mther - wh still lives part-time in Richmnd - picked them up frm Prillaman, and passed alng a few phts t her sns.
“I’m s dam tired and can hardly hld my eyes pen, but maybe I can last lng enugh t scribble dwn a few lines t the sweetest girl in the wrld,” ne letter read.
“I d lve yu, Hney, with all my heart,” Vance wrte in anther litter. “I am just waiting until I can bld yu clse again and have that wnderful feeling f walking n a clud return.
“I miss yu smething awful, Betty,” the nte cntinued. “All my lve, Vance.”
Prillaman said she felt permitted t peck at sme f the swn-wrthy litters after she cnnected with the cuple’s family. “Me and my sisters had sme wine, and we dve in,” said Prillaman, adding that the letters were thughtful and had impeccable grammar. “His penmanship is beautiful,” she said.
Fr Prillaman, uncvering the keepsakes has reinfrced the true value f litter-writing. “I think I’ll definitely put pen t paper mre.”
The Lng brthers agreed. “Our grandfather sat dwn with time and intentin and fcus and pured his heart ut,” Daltn said. “I think we shuld all d mre f that
