Gelgists have lng been fascinated by a missing piece f Earth’s histry—a lst cntinent called Argland. Arund 155 millin years ag, the 5, 000-kilmeter cntinent brke ff frm Western Australia and began drifting(漂移), leaving behind a basin deep belw the cean knwn as the Arg Abyssal Plain. But where did Argland actually g?
The seabed structure suggests that the cntinent drifted nrthwestward and ended up Sutheast Asia. But surprisingly, there is n large cntinent hidden beneath thse islands, nly small cntinental fragments(碎片) surrunded by ancient ceanic basins. Using this thery, gelgists at Utrecht University discvered that Argland hadn’t really disappeared but survived as a “very extended and fragmented cllectin” under the islands t the east f Indnesia.
Unlike ther cntinents like Africa and Suth America, which brke neatly int tw pieces. Argland split int many smaller fragments that were dispersed, which made it difficult fr scientists t lcate and study the cntinent’s gelgical features. Hwever, with advanced technlgy and the discvery, scientists can nw piece them tgether.
Tracing the cntinents is vital fr understanding prcesses like the evlutin f bidiversity. It culd help explain smething knwn as the mysterius Wallace line, which is an imaginary bundary that separates mammals, birds, and even early human species in Sutheast Asian islands. The bundary has puzzled scientists because f hw clearly it separates the island’s wildlife. T the west f the line are placental mammals like apes and elephants. But these are almst cmpletely absent t the east, where yu can find marsupials and cckats—animals typically assciated with Australia. Researchers have therized that this may be because Argland carried its wn wildlife away frm Australia befre it crashed int Sutheast Asia, which helps explain why different species are fund in different natins.
The stry f Argland is nt ne f cmplete disappearance but f transfrmatin. As the wrld cntinues t evlve, this lst cntinent serves as a pwerful symbl f the delicacy f life n this planet, and a reminder f the imprtance f respecting and prtecting the wrld that we live in.
28.What d we knw abut Argland?
A.It split int tw pieces many years ag.
B.It brke away frm the cntinent f Africa.

    A.Crashed.B.Cnnected.C.Distributed.D.Disappeared.

A.T intrduce the early histry f Argland.
B.T stress the significance f tracing Argland.
C.T prve the bidiversity f Sutheast Asian islands.
D.T explain the evlutinary prcess f Australian species.
31.Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
    A.The Discvery f a Lst CntinentB.The Bundaries f Wildlife Habitats
C.The Gelgical Features f ArglandD.The Frmatin f the Arg Abyssal Plain
    D
There’s a useful cncept frm psychlgy that helps explain why gd peple d things that harm the envirnment: the false cnsensus effect. That’s where we vervalue hw acceptable and prevalent(普遍的) ur wn behavir is in sciety. Put simply, if yu’re ding smething(even if yu secretly knw yu prbably shuldn’t), yu’re mre likely t think plenty f ther peple d it t. What’s mre, yu likely verestimate hw much ther peple think that behavir is bradly OK.
This bias (偏差) allws peple t justify scially unacceptable r illegal behavirs. Researchers have bserved the false cnsensus effect in drug use and illegal hunting. Mre recently, cnservatinists are beginning t reveal hw this effect cntributes t envirnmental damage.
In Australia, peple wh admitted t paching (偷猎) thught it was much mre prevalent in sciety than it really was, and had higher estimates than fishers wh beyed the law. They als believed thers viewed paching as scially acceptable; hwever, in reality, mre than 90% f fishers held the ppsite view. The false cnsensus effect has als shwn up in studies examining supprt fr nuclear energy and ffshre wind farms.
Just as cncepts frm psychlgy can help explain sme frms f envirnmental damage, s t can they help address it. Fr example, research shws peple are mre likely t litter in areas where there’s already a lt f trash scattered arund; s making sure the grund arund a bin is nt cvered in rubbish may help.
Factual infrmatin n hw ther peple think and behave can be very pwerful. Energy cmpanies have substantially reduced energy cnsumptin simply by shwing peple hw their electricity use cmpares t their neighbrs. Encuragingly, stimulating peple’s natural desire fr status has als been successful in getting peple t “g green t be seen”, r t publicly buy ec-friendly prducts.
As the research evidence shws, scial nrms can be a pwerful frce in encuraging and ppularizing envirnmentally friendly behavirs. Perhaps yu can d yur bit by sharing this article!
32.Which example best illustrates the false cnsensus effect?
A.A student spends lng hurs surfing the Internet.
B.A blgger assumes many peple dislike his psts.
C.A driver frequently parks illegally in public places.
D.A smker believes peple generally apprve f smking.
33.Hw did mst Australian fishers view the issue f paching?
    A.It is unacceptable.B.It is widespread.C.It is cntrversial.D.It is cmplex.
34.What d the underlined wrds “g green t be seen” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Embrace green habits fr better health.B.Make green chices that thers can ntice.
C.Jin green mvements fr persnal fulfillment.D.Chse green items that are easy t spt in stres.
35.What is a recmmended apprach t addressing envirnmental prblems?
    A.Underestimate scial nrms.B.Highlight persnal respnsibilities.
    C.Publicize sustainable practices.D.Encurage technlgical innvatins.

Many significant internatinal prjects have cnsidered hw schling might change t better match the changes that have taken place nwadays. 36 One is a shift in the meaning f knwledge, and the ther is the need t build educatin systems based arund what we nw knw abut learning.
The term “knwledge age” r “knwledge ecnmy” refers t a rerganizatin away frm an Industrial Age ecnmy, where explitatin (开采) f natural resurces, primary prductin and mass prductin were the standard mdels fr ecnmic develpment. 37 This is achieved thrugh the rapid creatin f new knwledge and has becme the basis fr ecnmic develpment. It is argued that educatin fr the knwledge age must fcus n the develpment f learners’ cmpetences t deal with new situatins and envirnments.
38 Nr des it deny the need fr bvius gals fr students’ knwledge develpment. Rather, the future-fcused educatin literature suggests we need t adpt a much mre cmplex view f knwledge, ne that incrprates knwing, ding and being. Alngside this we need t rethink ur ideas abut hw ur learning systems are rganized, resurced and supprted. Research clearly shws that peple d nt learn well as passive recipients(接受者) f prepackaged, bite-sized pieces f knwledge 39
Althugh sme f these principles are understd by many teachers, ur educatin systems and practices are ften set up in ways that d nt supprt these principles t perate in practice. Teachers and schl leaders are attempting paradigm(范式) shifts. 40
A.There needs t be wider public supprt fr them.
B.There are tw imprtant ideas that supprt this wrk.
C.This des nt mean that knwledge n lnger matters.
D.Gd learning requires active engagement in the “whle game”.
E.We are required t prepare yung peple fr the knwledge age.
F.This is pssible nly when active learning appraches are applied.
