Ehrman Crest Primary Schl in Pittsburgh celebrated its pening in August. Three mnths later, the schl. was put n the annual list f best inventins by a lcal newspaper.
The hnr fcused n Ehrman Orest’s creative design. There are large maps n the walls. Sme classrms cnnect t the utdrs. There’s als a rftp garden. “We didn’t set ut t be a best inventin,” said Tracy Vitale, a teacher in the schl. “We set ut simply t replace an 84-year-ld building.”
Kids played a key rle in creating Ehrman Crest. After adults made decisins abut basics, the builders met with students. “We really push hard n, ‘What d yu expect a new schl t be?’ and ‘What kind f envirnment wuld yu lve t learn in?’” explained Michael Crb, wh is with the builder CannnDesign. “We want students’ ideas n hw the schl shuld lk and feel.”
CannnDesign wrked with the Children’s Museum f Pittsburgh n the prject Anne Fullenkamp, a directr at the museum, said the design prcess started with kids expressing their views. “We try t pl the students’ ideas,” she said. “The kids were given plenty f materials, such as phts and different clred cards. They picked these things and created their wn strybards. Wd was imprtant t them, because it felt natural and was cmfrting. And they preferred calming clrs, such as blues and greens.”
The result is a schl with all the excitement f a children’s museum. There are traditinal classrms, but there are als places fr explratin. “It’s such a prud feeling t walk int ur schl,” teacher Ryan Bnicky said. “The kids are just excited abut learning.”

The plant wuld take away salt frm the water and supply that water t Arizna thrugh a 200-mile pipeline (管道).Supprters say this culd prvide fresh water fr abut ten years.
Envirnmentalists say the desalinatin prject wuld harm the planet in several ways. Sme f the salt taken ut f the Sea f Crtez might end up back in the cean, harming wildlife. The pipeline wuld be harmful t land where peple and animals live. And the desalinatin prcess uses lts f pwer. This wuld create greenhuse gases, which are causing the cnditins that have led t Arizna’s water prblems.
Margaret Wilder, a prfessr at the. University f Arizna, says the gvernment shuld fcus n cutting water demand (需求) rather than increasing supply.
