Scientists have discvered fssils that might have belnged t the heaviest animal in Earth's histry. The blue whale hlds the current recrd as the largest creature t live n Earth. But a cllectin f bnes fund in Peru might break that recrd.
Mari Urbina discvered the bnes in 2012. He is with the University f San Marcs' Natural Histry Museum in Lima. An internatinal team spent years digging them ut frm the side f a rcky hill in the Ica desert. The large fssils date back t arund 39 millin years ag.
After the digging peratin, the researchers used 3D scanners t study the surface f the bnes and als lked inside. The researchers used the huge but incmplete skeletn t estimate the whale's size and weight.
