It is imprtant t prtect yurself frm harmful rays. But if yu think a high-factr sunscreen keeps yu safe frm harmful rays, yu may be wrng. Research in this week’s Nature shws that while factr 50 reduces the number f melanmas(黑素瘤)and delays their ccurrence, it can’t prevent them. Melanmas are the mst aggressive skin cancers. Yu have a higher risk if yu have red r blnd hair, fair skin, blue r green eyes, r sunburn easily, r if a clse relative has had ne. Melanmas are mre cmmn if yu have peridic intense expsure t the sun. Other skin cancers are increasingly likely with lng-term expsure.
There is cntinuing debate as t hw effective sunscreen is in reducing melanmas—the evidence is weaker than it is fr preventing ther types f skin cancer. A 2011 Australian study f 1,621 peple fund that peple randmly selected t apply sunscreen daily had half the rate f melanmas f peple wh used cream as needed. A secnd study, cmparing 1,167 peple with melanmas t 1,101 wh didn’t have the cancer, fund that using sunscreen rutinely, alngside ther prtectin such as hats, lng sleeves r staying in the shade, did give sme prtectin. This study said ther frms f sun prtectin—n sunscreen—seemed mst beneficial. The study relied n peple remembering what they had dne ver each decade f their lives, s it’s nt entirely reliable. But it seems reasnable t think sunscreen gives peple a false sense f security in the sun.
Many peple als dn’t use sunscreen prperly applying insufficient amunts, failing t reapply after a cuple f hurs and staying in the sun t lng. It is sunburn that is mst wrrying—recent research shws five episdes f sunburn in the teenage years increase the risk f all skin cancers.
The gd news is that a cmbinatin f sunscreen and cvering up can reduce melanma rates, as shwn by Australian figures frm their slip-slp-slap campaign. S if there is a heat wave this summer, it wuld be best fr us, t, t slip n a shirt, use sunscreen and slap n a hat.
    12. What’s peple’s cmmn expectatin f high-factr sunscreen?
    A. It will prtect them frm sunburn.
    B. It will keep their skin smth and fair.
    C. It will wrk fr peple f any skin clr.
    D. It will delay the ccurrence f skin cancer.
    13. What can we learn frm Paragraph 2?
    A. Sunscreen can prevent all kinds f skin cancers.
    B. The studies are based n direct bservatin f the subjects.
    C. The studies may help peple select the mst effective sunscreen.
    D. Daily applicatin f sunscreen helps reduce the incidence f melanmas.
    14. What des the authr suggest in rder t reduce melanma rates?
    A. Staying in the shade whenever pssible.
    B. Using cvering up instead f sunscreen.
    C. Using bth cvering up and sunscreen.
    D. Applying the right amunt f sunscreen.
15 What is the best title fr the text?
    A N Way t Stp Harmful Rays!
    B. Des Sunscreen Prevent Skin Cancer?
    C. Did Yu Use Sunscreen in the Right Way?
    D. Skin Cancer—The Biggest Threat t Human Beings!
