Equipped with 100 years f hurricane data and mdern AI techniques, researchers at the Natinal Institute f Standards and Technlgy (NIST) have created a new methd f digitally simulating (模拟) hurricanes. State and lcal laws related t building design and cnstructin pint designers t standardized maps. On these maps, engineers can find the level f wind their structure must be able t deal with based n its lcatin and its relative imprtance. The wind speeds in the maps came frm scres f hypthetical (假定的) hurricanes simulated by cmputer mdels. “The simulated strms, if they behave like real hurricanes, can be used t create the data in the maps almst directly,” a researcher said.
In the research, the study material came in the frm f the Natinal Hurricane Center’s Atlantic Hurricane Database 2 (HURDAT2), which cntains infrmatin abut hurricanes ging back mre than 100 years.

When challenged t simulate bth the path and speed f histrical strms it had nt seen befre, the mdel scred highly.
