When did the vice inside yur head start talking? I became aware f mine at abut the age f 15. At night, I smetimes fund it difficult t get t sleep because there was s much "mind chatter" inside my head.
In fact, mind chatter is quite cmmn fr human beings. Usually, whenever ur attentin isn't fcused, a stream f mental activities flws thrugh ur minds---thughts abut the future r the past, daydreams abut varius realities, r friends r ther peple. We ften call this mental activity "thinking", but this isn't really s.
Real thinking suggests smething active ver which we have cnscius(有意识的)cntrl. It happens when we cnsciusly use pwers f reasn and lgic t evaluate different chices, make decisins and plans, rganize ur lives, slve prblems and s n. But mind chatter isn't like this. It's purpseless, running thrugh ur heads n matter what ur desires are and disturbing us.
Fr example, imagine yu're thinking abut what curses t take fr the next schl year. As yu are cnsidering them, thughts abut yur favrite subjects fld in, reminding yu f a prject that yu really like. This makes yu remember chatting with friends abut a fascinating article n climate change. Suddenly, yu remember the upcming science fair and yu wrry abut managing yur time. All these thughts leave yu struggling t fcus, and yu end up seeking advice frm classmates.
Hwever, it's unrealistic t expect t silence ur mind chatter altgether. It's such a natural part f ur minds that it's unlikely t disappear. We shuld accept it and treat it as a kind f physilgical(生理的)prcess that takes place inside us but is nt part f ur identity. We shuld treat it in the same way that we treat the prcess like eating and the flw f ur bld. We dn't get ur sense f identity frm them, s why shuld we identify with the vice inside ur head?
    28. Hw is real thinking different frm mind chatter?
    A. It is illgical. B. It is related t active reasning.
    C. It lacks a clear purpse. D. It is driven by desires.
    29. What des the example abut mind chatter in paragraph 4 highlight?
    A. Its inability t give advice. B. Its cnnectin t ur memries.
    C. Its impact n ur cncentratin. D. Its cmmn presence in ur mind.
    30. What des the authr think f mind chatter?
    A. It's nrmal. B. It's unusual. C. It's beneficial. D. It's harmful.
    31. Why des the authr mentin physilgical prcesses in the last paragraph?
    A. T stress the imprtance f mind chatter.
    B. T shw mind chatter cannt define wh we are.
    C. T explain the link between mental and physical health.
    D. T prve the human bdy's physilgical effect.
    D
There is a grwing hpe in the field f earthquake predictin(预测)due t artificial intelligence(AI), which is challenging the widely accepted belief that earthquake predictin is impssible. Thrugh a test carried ut in China, a team f researchers frm the University f Texas, Austin have develped an AI algrithm(算法)that can predict 70% f earthquakes up t seven days in advance.
The research team believes that their methd wrked well because they used a simple machine learning methd. Based n the team's understanding f earthquake physics, the AI was prvided with a set f data n earthquake, and then taught itself by using a five-year earthquake recrd database. After the learning prcess, the AI was able t predict earthquakes by listening and analyzing signs f incming earthquakes within the backgrund rumblings(隆隆声)in the Earth.
This achievement undubtedly marks a milestne(里程碑)in the field f AI-pwered earthquake predictin research. "Earthquakes arrive withut warning, "explains Alexandrs Savvaidis, a lead researcher at the Texas Seismlgical Netwrk Prgram(TexNet). "It's a matter f millisecnds, and the nly thing yu can cntrl is hw well yu are prepared. Even with the 70% accuracy, this is a huge achievement which culd help reduce ecnmic and human lsses and cntribute t earthquake preparatin wrldwide."
Althugh it remains t be seen whether this methd will be as effective in ther areas, the researchers believe that if used in areas with mre earthquake tracking netwrks, their Al algrithms deliver even mre accurate predictins. The next step is t test AI in Texas, since UT's Bureau TexNethas 300 earthquake statins and a cntinuus recrding histry f ver 6 years, making it an excellent testing grund fr these purpses.
In the lng run, the authrs hpe t cmbine the AI system with physics-based mdels. This cmbined strategy culd be particularly imprtant in situatins where data is pr r lacking. "There's still a lng way t g, but many advances like this, taken tgether, are what drive science frward, "said Sctt Tinker, the bureau's directr.
    32. Hw des the AI algrithm predict earthquakes?
    A. By using algrithms t cllect data.
    B. By identifying data frm the satellites.
    C. By analyzing backgrund sunds in the Earth.
    D. By understanding earthquake physics.
    33. What des Alexandrs Savvaidis intend t shw?
    A. The ways t reduce lsses in earthquake.
    B. The significance f develping the AI predictin.
    C. The imprtance f earthquake preparatin.
    D. The limitatins f current earthquake predictin methds.
    34. What des the fllw-up research fcus n?
    A. Cmbining the system with physics-based mdels.
    B. Applying the AI apprach t ther fields.
    C. Imprving earthquake tracking netwrks in Texas.
    D. Cnducting tests f AI in Texas.
    35. Which f the fllwing might be the best title fr the passage?
    A. AI: Reducing Earthquake Lsses
    B. AI: Stpping Earthquake frm Happening
    C. AI: Rewriting the Earthquake Preparatin Rules
    D. AI: Predicting 70% Earthquakes
