Beth Bnness talked int the mirrr as her hairstylist cut her hair. Bnness was telling a funny stry abut a trip t Rme. Suddenly, the stylist started mving her hands arund in the mirrr. “Beth. Beth. Create Gd Cmpany is a clthing cmpany that tries t prduce sustainable (可持续的) clthing and repurpse lder clthing int updated fashinable items. Maggie. Hendricks, the wner f Create Gd Cmpany, said, “If yu can revamp what yu find, why wuldn’t yu d that instead f buying new things? It’s a big issue nt t create new waste. I wuld say we are 90%recycled materials.”
Accrding t the EPA, the average cnsumer (消费者) thrws away 81.5 punds f clthes every year. “Anywhere between 10%-17%f the waste that’s ging int landfills (废弃物填埋场) is made up f things like textiles and clthing,” said Danny Katz with the CPIRG Fundatin.” A lt f the clthing that we’re prducing desn’t even get wrn, s it’s ging right t the landfill r even being burned and cntributing t pllutin that way. It’s really wrrying.”

Fr example, lk at smething like E. cli (大肠杆菌). It has receptrs n its surface that can sense amin acids arund it. It can change hw it’s mving. It can rebuild r repair itself. In fact, E.cli des all these swell that sme researchers are using it as part f their tiny machines. They are having their micrrbts get free rides frm it, and letting it d all the sensing fr them and direct their mvements.
We’re already using smaller and smaller medical tls fr peratins, like catheters (lng thin pipes) that can travel deep int yur brain t treat a tumr (肿瘤) r a bld clt. Next, we will put micrrbts int the bdy that can travel int even smaller spaces and treat disease at an early stage. Create Gd Cmpany is a clthing cmpany that tries t prduce sustainable (可持续的) clthing and repurpse lder clthing int updated fashinable items. Maggie. Hendricks, the wner f Create Gd Cmpany, said, “If yu can revamp what yu find, why wuldn’t yu d that instead f buying new things? It’s a big issue nt t create new waste. I wuld say we are 90%recycled materials.”
Accrding t the EPA, the average cnsumer (消费者) thrws away 81.5 punds f clthes every year. “Anywhere between 10%-17%f the waste that’s ging int landfills (废弃物填埋场) is made up f things like textiles and clthing,” said Danny Katz with the CPIRG Fundatin.” A lt f the clthing that we’re prducing desn’t even get wrn, s it’s ging right t the landfill r even being burned and cntributing t pllutin that way. It’s really wrrying.”

The way bacteria travel acrss their envirnment is unbelievable. At first, they kind f just aimlessly mve arund, but when they start sensing fd, like an amin acid (氨基酸) they will mve gradually in that directin. As a rbticist, yu culd imagine making tiny rbts that can d the same thing.
Fr example, lk at smething like E. cli (大肠杆菌). It has receptrs n its surface that can sense amin acids arund it. It can change hw it’s mving. It can rebuild r repair itself. In fact, E.cli des all these swell that sme researchers are using it as part f their tiny machines. They are having their micrrbts get free rides frm it, and letting it d all the sensing fr them and direct their mvements.
We’re already using smaller and smaller medical tls fr peratins, like catheters (lng thin pipes) that can travel deep int yur brain t treat a tumr (肿瘤) r a bld clt. Next, we will put micrrbts int the bdy that can travel int even smaller spaces and treat disease at an early stage. Imagine a device that can treat a bld clt deep in yur brain that can’t be reached with existing catheters.
It’s imprtant t nte, thugh, that we may nt actually need smething as pwerful as artificial intelligence (AI) in these cases. Yu can still build an extremely useful micrrbt with a lw degree f intelligence. Fr example: If a micrrbt ntices a tumr, it can slwly mve in that directin, and carry medicine directly t that part. It might nly have the intelligence f bacteria but culd still be unbelievably effective.
