In late September, an internatinal team f researchers spread ut acrss a remte New Mexic muntain range in search f a plant. The grup walked thrugh the rugh landscape lking fr signs f plants hugging a tree. Seven days later, the scientists left with a sample f nature’s reward: wild bean plants.
The scientists wanted t cllect the legume(豆科植物), which is native t dry regins f the suthwestern United States and nrthwestern Mexic. “The plants have adapted t this very ht and dry climate, s they have exceptin al drught and heat tlerance,” said Sarah Dhle, an expert with the U. S. Department f Agriculture.
A warming planet is causing huge damage t agriculture arund the glbe. In the western U. S., a severe drught affected Califrnia’s tmat and rice prductin. In Guatemala, the cmbined effects f bth drught and rain decreased crn and black bean harvests. In Sub-Saharan Africa, ht cnditins have reduced the yields f wheat and crn by mre than a third since the early 1960s.
“Crps like the wild bean culd help diversify fd prductin, and their genetic material may help make ther crps mre drught- and heat-tlerant,” said Richard Pratt, wh is amng a grwing number f scientists wrking t lk fr crps adapting t climate change.
The University f Califrnia is leading a multi-state $15millin prject invlving 20 institutins t speed up the breeding(繁殖)cycles f wheat and t research ways t help the crp grw in a tughened envirnment. At Auburn University in Alabama, scientists are wrking t breed a peanut variety that can better tlerate drught cnditins. And scientists frm varius institutins have taken part in an effrt funded by the Nrwegian gvernment t identify, cllect and evaluate wild crps fr future develpment.
Still, there are numerus challenges at play: Crp breeding is a time-intensive prcess, s it can be difficult fr scientists t keep pace with rapidly changing weather. Advances in gene editing can help speed up the prcess, but cme with their wn trials.
“As glbal climate change keeps being hard n us,” Sarah said, “there isn’t plenty f time left fr us t get crps that are adaptable.”
28.What is paragraph 1 intended fr?

30.What des Sarah Dhle imply at last?

Researchers are training rbts t perfrm an ever-grwing number f tasks thrugh trial-and-errr reinfrcement(强化)learning, which is ften labrius and time-cnsuming. T help ut, humans are nw emplying large language mdel(LLM)AI.
A team at NVIDIA Research directed an AI prtcl(协议)pwered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 t teach a simulatin(模拟)f a rbtic hand nearly 30 cmplex tasks, including thrwing a ball, pushing blcks, pressing switches, and sme ther seriusly impressive abilities.
NVIDIA’s new “AI agent” Eureka uses GPT-4 by asking the large language mdel t write its wn reward-based reinfrcement learning sftware cde. Accrding t the cmpany, Eureka desn’t need cmplicated reminders r even pre-written patterns; instead, it simply begins experimenting with a prgram, and then fllws any external human feedback.
In the cmpany’s annuncement, Linxi “Jim” Fan, a senir research scientist at NVIDIA, described Eureka as a unique cmbinatin f LLMs and simulatin prgramming. “We believe that Eureka will enable rbts t cntrl items flexibly and prvide a new way t prduce physically realistic animatins fr artists,” Fan added.
After testing its training prtcl within an advanced simulatin prgram, Eureka then analyzes its cllected data and directs the LLM t further imprve upn its design. The result is a prtcl capable f successfully numbering a variety f rbtic hand designs t perate scissrs, turn pens and pen cupbards within a physics-accurate simulated envirnment.
Eureka’s alternatives t human-written trial-and-errr learning prgrams aren’t just effective—in mst cases, they’re actually better than thse authred by humans. In the team’s pen-surce research paper findings, Eureka-designed reward prgrams utperfrmed humans’ cde in ver 80 percent f the tasks—amunting t an average perfrmance imprvement f ver 50 percent in the rbtic simulatins.
“Reinfrcement learning has cntributed t impressive wins ver the last decade, yet many challenges still exist, such as reward design, which remains a trial-and-errr prcess,” said Anima Anandkumar, an AI researcher. “Eureka is the first step tward develping new algrithms(算法)that integrate generative and reinfrcement learning methds t slve hard tasks.”
32.Why is AI used fr the training?
A.T simplify rbts’ tasks.B.T advertise OpenAI’s GPT-4.
C.T speed up the training prcess.D.T recgnize artists’ rle in art creatin.
33.What des Eureka need t d in the training?
A.Design reward prgrams.B.Cpy pre-written patterns.
C.Get cmplicated reminders.D.Avid human interventin.
34.Hw des Anima Anandkumar find Eureka?
A.It is still pr at the reward design.B.It shuld learn frm hard tasks.
C.It has few challenges t slve.D.It is f pineering significance.
35.What is the main idea f the text?
A.Trial-and-errr learning prgrams are prmising.
B.Rbts can finish cmplex tasks thrugh learning.
C.Reinfrcement learning imprves rbtic simulatins.
D.AI can better teach a simulated rbtic hand t perfrm tasks.

Learning ften requires taking different risks, whether it’s the willingness t try smething new r keep trying after a failed attempt. Fr children, it’s this prcess f learning hw t take risks and becming cmfrtable with failure that can help them grw and develp. 36 As research is shwing, children’s willingness t take risks in learning can depend n their relatinship with their parents.
Accrding t the research, children wh viewed their parents as being supprtive and reliable were mre willing t take risks while learning. “ 37 When their parents supprt them and are trustwrthy, the children get a sense f hw things wrk,” said Seth Pllak, the lead researcher f the study.
Here is what yu, as parents, shuld remember.
Creating a supprtive learning envirnment fr yur children ften includes identifying what they struggle with and what they need. 38 Yur children can’t necessarily tell yu what they need, but they are ften shwing yu. Fr example, if yur children are cnsistently having a meltdwn(崩溃)after schl, that culd be a sign that they are verstimulated frm the schl day, and need sme extra time t relieve pressure befre starting their hmewrk. Other behavirs culd include refusing t d smething, such as writing with a pencil r ding their math hmewrk.
One way t create reliability is t develp rutines with yur children. 39 Fr example, it culd be making the effrt t give them 10 minutes f undivided attentin when they cme hme frm schl, making it a habit t play LEGOs with them every Friday evening, r a predictable bedtime rutine. 40
A.That is what they expect frm their children.
B.Thse rutines shuld be develped by children themselves.
C.That cnsistent and psitive attentin can make a big difference.
D.Children frm mre stable backgrunds perfrm better in learning.
E.One way t d that is t track certain behavirs ver time, lking fr patterns.
F.The rutines are less abut hw big r time-cnsuming, and mre abut their predictability.
G.Hwever, encuraging children t take these risks can be an extremely difficult task fr parents.
