She brught help and happiness t a sciety in many ways that was having a difficult time due t the virus. He said peple visited the scial media sites every day s it felt like he was raising her tgether with them. They cared s much fr her and shared the same emtins f raising a baby panda tgether during such difficult times.
Fu Ba will be transferred t China Cnservatin and Research Center fr the Giant Panda in Sichuan Prvince. Everland says that she will be kept alne at Everland Panda Wrld fr a mnth t prepare her t adjust t her new envirnment befre her verseas transfer, which will be carried ut in accrdance with internatinal rules.

Imagine a hrizntal line. The very left is marked ne thusand and the very right is marked ne billin. On this line, where wuld yu add a marker t represent ne millin? This errr makes sense because “ur human brains are pretty bad at cmprehending large numbers,” says Elizabeth Tmarian, an educatinal neurscientist at Stanfrd University. Our brain is built t understand hw much f smething is in its envirnment. But cmprehending the natinal debt r imagining the size f ur universe? “We certainly can use ur brains in that way, but we’re recycling these srts f evlutinarily (进化地) ld brain architectures t d smething really new,” she says. In ther wrds, it’s nt ur fault that we have truble wrapping ur heads arund big numbers.
S what can we d abut the struggle t understand big numbers? It is suggested t use metaphrs, analgies (类比) and visualizatins. These techniques bring big numbers dwn t a mre cmprehensible scale (比例) and ideally make it relevant t smething in ur daily lives. Fr example, it may be difficult fr mst peple t accurately place the extinctin f the dinsaurs n a timeline between the Big Bang and human existence because the first tw bth seem t be placed t the distant path. But when cnceptualizing (概念化) these events using a “calendar”, it becmes easier. The Big Bang ccurred at 12 a. m. n January 1st n the calendar. Dinsaurs were nly present fr rughly the last week f the year. And humans nly emerged in the last eight secnds: December 31st, at 12: 59: 52 p. m. It’s clear nw that dinsaurs are much clser t humans than the Big Bang n a timeline.
These metaphrs and analgies are imprtant if peple are t really weigh the csts and benefits f events in their lives. The cncept nt nly applies t lng-term decisins, but public plicies.
    28. Why des the authr mentin the example in the first paragraph?
    A. T intrduce the tpic. B. T explain the main idea.
    C. T make a summary f the text. D. T make cmparisns with ther tpics.
    29. Accrding t Tmarian, what’s t blame fr being unable t wrk ut big numbers?
    A. The lack f cnceptual techniques. B. The unwillingness t learn smething new.
    C. Our lw ability t evaluate and cmpare. D. Our inbrn nature due t evlutinary factrs.
    30. What is recmmended fr the understanding f big numbers?
    A. Making them related t each ther.
    B. Wrapping ur heads arund them.
    C. Using techniques t put them t a smaller scale.
    D. Applying a calendar t present them.
    31. What will prbably be further discussed in the fllwing paragraph?
    A. Hw t make lng-term decisins.
    B. Hw metaphrs and analgies help slve public prblems.
    C. Hw t weigh the csts and benefits in ur life.
    D. Hw imprtant public plicies are in ur life.
    D
Chinese researchers have revealed the anti-cancer characteristic f neutrphils (中性粒细胞)—a type f white bld cells—and the related mlecular regulatin mechanism, prviding new insights int cancer diagnsis and treatment. Neutrphils are the mst abundant white bld cells in the human bdy. As the first line f defence against infectins, they play a key rle in anti-infectin immunity. The researchers cllected neutrphils frm 143 patients with 17 different types f cancer and analyzed them. “We were surprised t find such cmplexity and different rles within neutrphils, which have been ignred fr s lng,” said Zhang Xiaming, a researcher at the Institute. “What is especially remarkable is their newly discvered capacity t act as antigen-presenting cells, gathering T cells against cancer. In additin, the abundance f antigen-presenting neutrphils is assciated with imprved cnditin acrss many cancer types revealed in this study,” he said.
“This cmpletely changes hw we perceive neutrphils in the cntext f cancer,” said Ga Qiang, a prfessr at Fudan University. “Nw we knw we culd emply the diverse hidden identities f neutrphils t strengthen the effectiveness f immuntherapy (免疫疗法). We’re thrilled t further explre the ptential benefits f these newly uncvered mechanisms in clinics.”
The study emphasizes the value f single-cell sequencing appraches t reveal new functinal dimensins even within seemingly well-understd immune cells. Tapping int the hidden ptential f neutrphils may prvide new insights int cancer diagnsis and treatment.
    32. Hw was the anti-cancer functin f neutrphils discvered?
    A. By referring t previus research. B. By cllecting and analyzing data.
    C. By seeking guidance frm experts. D. By bserving patients with inflammatin.
    33. Which f the fllwing is a functin f neutrphils?
    A. Getting tgether T cells when needed. B. Preventing the frmatin f antigens.
    C. Speeding up the bld flw. D. Distinguishing different types f cancer.
    34. What’s Ga Qiang’s attitude twards the new research?
    A. Psitive. B. Dubtful. C. Wrried. D. Unclear.
    35. What can be the best title fr the text?
    A. Bld Cells Successfully Fight Against Severe Cancer
    B. China Makes Great Prgress in Fighting Against Diseases
    C. Further Research Is Needed t Fight Against Cancer
    D. Researchers Discver New Cancer-fighting Mechanism
