He is n a missin t lay the fundatins f an innvative fine-dining scene n the African cntinent that can cmpare with Eurpe’s — but in a distinctive, African way.
When it cmes t the understanding f fine dining, different frm Eurpe’s emphasis n exclusivity and cmpetitiveness, Dieuveil fcuses mre n integratin. “If yu want t g far, yu must share with peple,” he says. And his Afr-fusin cuisine has been shaped by this philsphy f sharing. T better understand the diverse traditins, dishes and ingredients f Africa, he went int villages and met with the grandmthers, as they’re usually the masters f amazing, ld techniques. These villagers shared their lcal cuisine and family recipes, teaching Dieuveil reginal fermentatin (发酵) and preservatin prcesses.
T ensure the quality f fresh prduce, Dieuveil surces all his vegetables frm his three-hectare rganic farm in nrthern Rwanda, where he cntinues his “fd revlutin” by establishing the cnnectin with remte and underserved cmmunities, and invlving mre students cming frm cuntries acrss Africa. Sustainability was a ht tpic at the Paris Air Shw, the wrld’s largest event fr the aviatin industry, which faces increasing pressure t reduce the climate-changing greenhuse gases that aircraft emit. Even the massive rders at the shw gt an emissin-reductin perspective: Airlines and prducers said the new planes wuld be mre fuel-efficient than the nes they replaced. Hwever, mst f thse planes will burn cnventinal kersene-based jet fuel.
Sme cmpanies are wrking n electric-pwered aircraft, which are seen as a way t reduce the envirnmental effects f the aviatin industry, prviding zer emissins and quieter flights. Hwever, they are still sme way ff frm widespread cmmercial use. That means sustainable aviatin fuel (SAF) has becme the industry’s best hpe f achieving its prmise f net zer emissins by 2050. SAF, hwever, accunts fr just 0.1% f all jet fuel. Made frm surces like used cking il and plant waste, SAF can be mixed with cnventinal jet fuel but csts much mre.
With such a limited supply f SAF, critics say airlines are making verly ambitius prmises and exaggerating hw quickly they can ramp up the use f SAF. The industry even has skeptics: Nearly ne-third f aviatin sustainability fficers in a GE Aerspace survey dubt whether the industry will hit its net zer gal by 2050.
Acrss the Atlantic, a cnsumer grup called BEUC filed a cmplaint against the Eurpean Unin’s executive arm, accusing 17 airlines f greenwashing. The grup says airlines are misleading cnsumers and breaking rules n cmmercial practices by encuraging custmers t pay extra t help finance the develpment f SAF and ffset future carbn emissins created by flying. In ne case, the grup’s researchers fund Air France charging up t 138 eurs fr the green ptin.
“SAF is indeed the biggest technlgical ptential t decarbnize the aviatin sectr, but the main prblem is that it isn’t available. We knw that befre the end f the next decade — at least — it wn’t be available in massive quantities,” said Dimitri Vergnc, a senir plicy fficer at BEUC.
    8. What did airlines and prducers emphasize at the Paris Air Shw?
    A. Ways f reducing fuel cnsumptin.
    B. Imprvement in planes’ safety perfrmance.
    C. Envirnmental friendliness f their new planes.
    D. Efficiency f cnventinal kersene-based jet fuel.
    9. Why des the authr mentin electric-pwered aircraft?
    A. T stress the necessity f develping SAF.
    B. T highlight the future f the aviatin industry.
    C. T shw effrts made t achieve net zer emissins.
    D. T explain their advantages ver traditinal aircraft.
    10. What des the underlined part “ramp up” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
    A. Stp.B. Limit.C. Balance.D. Increase.
    11. Where des the text mst prbably cme frm?
    A. An airline ad.B. A study result.C. A news reprt.D. A science paper.

Recently, after I gave a virtual presentatin n my bk Indistractable, a listener wrte smething in the Zm chat that drve me crazy, “This is great but wuldn’t wrk fr me. I’m a Gemini (双子星座的人).”
Irnically, the Zm listener is right. If she thinks she’s incapable, she’ll prve it crrect — whether it has anything t d with the stars and mn r nt. Her inflexible self-identificatin denies her the chance t imprve her life. It’s incredibly self-limiting.
That’s why we shuld stp defining urselves as fixed identities and nuns, and instead start describing urselves using verbs.
Wrds are pwerful. Linguistic research shws that language shapes peple and culture; it can als give us insight int urselves and ur behavir. In a well-knwn study, researchers Rbert Rsenthal and Lenre Jacbsen had all students in the same elementary schl take a standard IQ test. Then they randmly selected a grup f students, regardless f their test results, and tld teachers the grup wuld shw “dramatic intellectual grwth”. Eight mnths later, thse students scred significantly higher n an IQ test. The study cncluded that teachers’ psitive perceptin f students crrelated t thse students’ high perfrmance n intellectual and academic tests. The labels the children received became a srt f self-fulfilling prphecy (预言).
That’s because language shapes expectatins, which shape ur reality. If we have experiences that lead us t label urselves with specific nuns during ur life, then we are likely t stick with thse labels and the behavirs that g with them.
Using verbs t identify urselves is an effective methd fr releasing “trapped prirs”—a term in psychlgy fr a perceptin f reality that’s affected r trapped by past experiences. Verbs are actin wrds well suited t describing shrt-lived behavirs that can and d change. They dn’t lay claim t ur entire identity, but they acknwledge that we are peple first and fremst, nt whatever a singular nun may say we are. S, instead f saying, “I am a prcrastinatr (拖拉者)”, yu shuld say, “I am a persn wh ften prcrastinates.”
By fcusing n ur behavirs, nt fixed characteristics, we can release harmful perceptins f urselves that hld us back frm trying methds that might imprve ur lives — like thse that can help us achieve the critical skill f being indistractable.
    12. What des the authr want t shw thrugh the example f the Zm listener?
    A. The cncept f flexible self-identificatin.
    B. His cnfusin abut the way t self-identify.
    C. His understanding f prper self-identificatin.
    D. The negative effects f using nuns t define neself.
    13. What des the well-knwn study imply?
    A. Self-fulfilling prphecies change ver time.
    B. Encuragement prmtes students’ imprvement.
    C. Language usage will have an impact n teaching.
    D. IQ has little t d with students’ academic perfrmance.
    14. Hw are teachers expected t evaluate students?
    A. By highlighting their behavirs.
    B. By fcusing n their advantages.
    C. By analyzing their typical characteristics.
    D. By assessing their academic perfrmance.
    15. Which can be the best title fr the text?
    A. Nuns are mre pwerful than verbs
    B. Yur wrds can determine yur future
    C. Hw we define urselves really cunts
    D. Our ptin f wrds reflects ur identity

Her red brick apartment was cmpletely clsed ff, the gate was shut, and the blinds were pulled dwn. Nt a ray f light culd be seen inside. Sensing that I was right and that smething was clearly wrng, my father began punding n the lcked frnt dr while I checked the back dr.
Bth were lcked. My sister leaned n the drbell and althugh she culd hear the bell ringing, there was n ther nise inside. I raced arund the side f the huse t lk inside ne f her windws, but the heavy blinds were shut tight.
My sister rushed ver t the neighbr’s huse t see if they had seen ur grandmther, but they were ut. The ther huse cnnected t my grandmther’s apartment sat empty. Nt a persn was arund.
