Hip hp is a subculture and an art mvement that emerged (出现) frm the Brnx in New Yrk City during the early 1970s. Its develpment reflected the negative effects f pst-industrial decline plitical discurse, and a rapidly changing ecnmy.
Lking back t New Yrk City during this era, we see an ecnmic cllapse. The city’s ecnmy was falling apart due t the decline f the manufacturing industry. Much f the middle class mved t the suburbs t escape the scial and ecnmic challenges.
Cnsequently, businesses clsed their drs, causing many ecnmic pprtunities and surces f entertainment t disappear. As a result, urban yuth turned t the streets fr recreatin and self-expressin. The abandned buildings and parking lts set the stage fr blck parties. These blck parties laid the grundwrk fr early hip hp culture. DJs and MCs brught the music by setting up mbile “Sund Systems” intrduced by Jamaican culture. Sheets f cardbard became dance flrs fr break-dancers, and brick walls transfrmed int canvases fr graffiti. The emerging hip hp culture als became an utlet t deal with despair, abandnment and even vilence.
Several peple were influential in creating hip hp. Amng the mst famus nes is DJ Kl Herc, the “funding father f hip hp.” The Jamaican American made histry in 1973 when he and his sister hsted the “Back t Schl” party in their apartment building. This histrical party is recgnized fr launching the hip hp mvement. Herc was als famus fr creating a DJ technique called “break beat”-a mixing practice he adapted frm Jamaican music. He nticed that peple ften waited fr drum breaks f a recrd t dance. This tk place when every instrument stpped playing except fr the drums. Then the DJ wuld use tw turntables (唱机转盘) t switch back and frth between tw cpies f the same recrd. The break sectin was als the mst anticipated part f a sng where peple danced the mst.
The DJ kept grwing in ppularity thrughut the 1970s. He mved n t larger parks, played in clubs and inspired ther DJs wh helped this type f dance music t develp.
    8. Why did hip hp culture emerge in the Brnx during the early 1970s?
    A. Because f the ecnmic dwnturn and scial circumstances.
    B. Because f the pst-industrial ecnmy and cultural diversity.
    C. Because f the ppularity f Jamaican music and dance culture.
    D. Because f yung peple’ need fr new frms f entertainment.
    9. What was the fundatin fr hip hp culture in the beginning?
    A. Ecnmic challenges.B. Jamaican music.
    C. Cmmunity gatherings.D. Despair and vilence.
    10. What des the underlined wrd “utlet” in paragraph 3 prbably refer t?
    A. A place t seek entertainment.
    B. A mvement fr scial changes.

Obviusly, much has been written abut the wnders f the Internet, which has made ur lives mre cnvenient. Hwever, peple, particularly many lder peple arund the wrld have at least ne cmmn cncern: Hw t get yunger peple, addicted t their electrnic devices, interested in classic literature thrugh advanced and updated technlgies. Take the Mnkey King, r Sun Wukng, as an example. The main character in the 16th-century classic nvel, Jurney t the West, is a symbl f bravery and adventure that impressed millins f readers befre the appearance f nline attractins.
Havc in Heaven, a new Peking Opera film, attracted the wider public t the beauty f the traditinal Chinese perfrmance art, featuring ne f the best-knwn chapters frm Jurney t the West. This film, expected t create a new way t prmte Peking Opera, includes nearly all the key ingredients (成分) f Peking Opera. It cvers all the basic techniques, and makeup fr dzens f facial representatins f different figures’ characteristics.
It’s actually a big challenge t cmbine Peking Opera and film, each f which has its wn characteristic. One challenge that Cheng and his prductin team faced is hw t balance the new apprach with keeping the basic perfrmance skills in Peking Opera.
Sme backgrund images n stage remain, and a live band was n the set t prvide sund fr the film, rather than emplying the prerecrded music. “If we change traditins t satisfy peple’s taste and preference fr a regular film, it will n lnger be a Peking Opera piece f art,” Cheng said.
On the ther hand, sme creativity was needed because Cheng and his team did nt just want t recrd a stage perfrmance. Cmputer technlgy is als applied t achieve sme visual effects and t present impssible scenes.
Peking Opera films played a pwerful rle in the 1960s and 70s, but they gave way t mre varius entertainment. In recent years, there has been a recvery in the ppularity f Peking Opera films. Hwever, the veruse f special effects in many film adaptatins f Peking Opera plays has weakened the riginal charm f the stage perfrmances.
    12. What is the purpse f the first paragraph?
    A. T blame yung peple addicted t electrnic devices.
    B. T intrduce a new Peking Opera film.
    C. T express lder peple’s wrry abut the yung generatin’s life.
    D. T inspire readers’ interest in traditinal Chinese perfrmance art.
    13. What did Directr Cheng d while prducing the film?
    A. He made changes t basic perfrmance skills.
    B. He made use f symbls and mtins equally.
    C. He cmbined traditin and innvatin tgether.
    D. He brught nt the stage details f real life.
    14. What innvatin did Cheng’s team make?
    A. They ppsed a rigid and inflexible recrding f the perfrmance.
    B. They enriched visual effects with mdern technlgy.
    C. They allwed actrs t repeat actins befre the camera.
    D. They adpted real explsin scenes during the shting.
15 What can we cnclude frm the last paragraph?
    A. Imaginatin is a unique charm f Peking Opera films.
    B. Technlgy makes up fr the lss f stage imaginatin.
    C. There is sme pssibility fr a film t replace Peking Opera.
    D. The riginal charm f Peking Opera cannt be given up fr films.
