Researchers have created a device that uses brain waves t translate what paralyzed (瘫痪的) peple wh can’t speak intend t say int sentences. The device, created by a team at the University f Califrnia, San Francisc, analyzes brain waves t decde what a patient is trying t say and then displays the text n a cmputer screen.
Vlunteering t test the device was a man in his late 30s wh 15 years ag suffered a brain-stem strke that caused widespread paralysis and rbbed him f speech.
The researchers implanted electrdes (电极) n the surface f the man’s brain, ver the area that cntrls speech. A cmputer analyzed the patterns when he attempted t say cmmn wrds such as “water” r “gd”, eventually becming able t differentiate between 50 wrds that culd generate mre than 1, 000 sentences.

M: I’ve always been interested in making mney. My father was very prud that I’d been t university — the first in my family t d s, and he hped I’d becme a banker r a lawyer. But instead I saw a chance t make mney frm sprts shes and started my business in the early 1980s.
