The researchers, at Yale Schl f Medicine in New Haven, Cnnecticut, had fund electrical activity in brains taken frm dead pigs. With that shcking result, Sestan realized what had started as a side prject t find ways t better preserve brain tissue fr research had changed int a discvery that culd redefine ur understanding f life and death.
The excitement sn turned t cncern, when the researchers thught they saw widespread, cnsistent electrical activity which can indicate cnsciusness. Sestan brught in a neurlgist, wh determined the readut (信息读出) was actually an errr, but the pssibility had frightened them.
Sestan kept his cl and immediately did tw things: he shut dwn the experiment and cntacted the US Natinal Institutes f Health (NIH), as well as Yale biethicist (生物伦理学家).
