During the challenge thrugh the Gbi Desert and the Altun Muntains,the 40-year-ad faced temperatures ranging frm—20℃ at right t 30°C by day, wild animals and even a hurricane. Carrying a backpack cntaining the hare minimum f equipment he wuld need, Pan battled sleep deprivatin(缺乏) and very lw bdy temperature during the jurney.
Beginning frm the“Mars Camp”in Qinghai Prvince, the ultra extreme curse was expanded t mre than 500 km ver sand dunes(沙丘), dry valleys, stny plateaus and snwy
muntains, finishing in Guazhu.

A prgram at Virginia Cmmnwealth University (VCU) is hping t fight against lneliness brught n by the pandemic by frming friendships between students and senirs in the cmmunity. They're making it pssible thrugh weekly calls.
"It's been a thing I lk frward t every week," Miranda Savili, a VCU medical student said.
The prgram is run by students invlved with the American Geriatrics Sciety and pairs medical and health science students with senirs in the cmmunity.
VCU educatin administratr fr the Schl f Medicine, Chuck Alexander, says it was frmed t fight against lneliness and give students valuable interactin with that age grup — smething that's been missing since training prgrams stpped earlier this year. "It's mstly just scial—just chatting,” Alexander said. "A lt f times they just need smene t talk t. A lt f times they fee that they have a cnnectin with smene yunger wh is just entering a new phase in their career and that they have sme wisdm t impart t them — medically and scially as a friend.”
S far, the vlunteer prgram has paired arund 40 students with senirs.
Every week, Savili vide calls retiree Jan Kerby,wh lives in a retirement cmmunity in Henric.
“It's a really gd cnnectin because in lckdwn yu really dn't have lng cnversatins with anybdy," Kerby said.
