It was easiest t catch female fireflies when they laid their eggs. Thus, there were fewer and fewer left t prduce the next generatin. At the same time, a fast-urbanizing Japan was turning Mriyama’s nce ideal habitats int places where few fireflies culd survive. Cncrete was laid n the banks where there was nce grass. Wastewater ran int the waters where the larvae (幼虫) grew.
The funders set its museum in the kind f habitat that Genji fireflies wuld find attractive. They created an artificial river and planted its banks with grass. Inside the museum, they mate and reprduce Genji fireflies; it is still the nly rganizatin t d s in a large size. Fireflies lay thusands f eggs.
