Fresc(湿壁画) refers t painting techniques used n plaster(灰泥). Ppular during the Renaissance perid, especially in Italy, fresces were usually used t decrate walls f public buildings.
The purest type f fresc painting, als knwn as “bun fresc”, invlves mixing pigments(颜料) directly with wet plaster. The clr is thus actually part f the material, rather than a cating n tp f it, as is the case with “fresc a secc” r with regular painting. The clrs f a bun fresc are especially vibrant and lng-lasting; the Bull-Leaping Fresc in Knsss, Crete was created arund the 17th-15th centuries BCE, but the clrs are still clear tday. Hwever, this technique is nt withut its unique disadvantages. Fr ne thing, clrs lk different when they are wet than when they are dry. Artists f the time typically mixed their wn plaster and clr mixtures, wrking quickly t finish a part f a mural(壁画) befre the plaster dried. The mixture they created the next time might have been a slightly different shade. If yu lk carefully at the fresces n the Sistine Chapel. yu can see which parts must have been cmpleted in a single sessin by the faint differences in clrs.
Fresc a secc requires smething t be added t the paint t make it stick t the dry plaster. This technique is smetimes used t repair a bun fresc that has been damaged, althugh the clrs are generally nt as bright. Hwever, sme clrs actually wrked better with the fresc a secc. During the Renaissance perid, the available pigments fr creating blue did nt mix well with wet plaster; fr this reasn, skies, water, and blue clthing smetimes were painted as secc fresces after the bun fresc had dried.
In 1997, the fresces by Gitt di Bndne in the Basilica f St. Francis in Assisi, Italy were damaged in an earthquake. 150 restrers, f whm mst are vlunteers, spent five years gathering 60,000 pieces that they culd find and set them back int place, much like a puzzle, althugh abut 35 percent f the fresc remains incmplete.
28. Which f the fllwing can replace the wrd “vibrant” underlined in paragraph 2?
A. Bright.B. Simple.C. Watery.D. Rare.
29. What des the authr want t shw by mentining the fresces n the Sistine Chapel?

B. It is crucial t differentiate varied painting style.
C. It tk time fr painters t create their unique clrs.
D. It was hard t create the exactly same clr every time.

B. The reasns why painters preferred blue.
C. The characters and uses f fresc a secc.
D. The similarities between the tw fresc techniques.

Nt t many decades ag it seemed “bvius” bth t the general public and t scilgists that mdern sciety has changed peple’s natural relatins, lsened their respnsibilities t kins(亲属) and neighbrs, and substituted in their place superficial(肤浅的) relatinships with passing acquaintances. Hwever, in recent years a grwing bdy f research has revealed that the “bvius” is nt true. It seems that if yu are a city resident, yu typically knw a smaller prprtin f yur neighbrs than yu d if yu are a resident f a smaller cmmunity. But, fr the mst part, this fact has few significant cnsequences. It des nt necessarily fllw that if yu knw few f yur neighbrs yu will knw n ne else.
Even in very large cities, peple maintain clse scial ties within small, private scial wrlds. Indeed, the number and quality f meaningful relatinships d nt differ between mre and less urban peple. Small-twn residents are mre invlved with kin than are big-city residents. Yet city dwellers cmpensate by develping friendships with peple wh share similar interests and activities. Urbanism may prduce a different style f life, but the quality f life des nt differ between twn and city. Nr are residents f large cmmunities any likelier t display psychlgical symptms f stress r alienatin, a feeling f nt belnging, than are residents f smaller cmmunities. Hwever, city dwellers d wrry mre abut crime, and this leads them t a distrust f strangers.
These findings d nt imply that urbanism makes little r n difference. If neighbrs are strangers t ne anther, they are less likely t sweep the sidewalk f an elderly cuple living next dr r keep an eye ut fr yung trublemakers. Mrever, as Wirth suggested, there may be a link between a cmmunity’s ppulatin size and its scial hetergeneity(多样性). Fr instance, scilgists have fund much evidence that the size f a cmmunity is assciated with bad behavir including gambling, drugs, etc. Large-city urbanites are als mre likely than their small-twn cunterparts t have a csmplitan(见多识广的) utlk. They are likely t be mre tlerant twards things. Everything cnsidered, hetergeneity and unusual behavir seem t be utcmes f large ppulatin size.
32. Accrding t paragraph 1, it was nce a cmmn belief that peple in mdern sciety __________.
A. usually had mre friends than small-twn residents
B. bre great respnsibilities t neighbrs and relatives
C. culdn’t develp very clse relatinships with thers
D. tended t acquaint themselves with peple passing by
33. One f the cnsequences f urbanism is that the city residents __________.
A. lwer the quality f relatinships B. suffer frm the lack f friendship
C. shw little cncern fr strangers D. becme suspicius f each ther
34. We can learn frm the passage that the bigger a cmmunity is __________.
A. the mre likely it is t display stress B. the mre pen-minded peple are
C. the mre similar its interests areD. the better its quality f life is
35. What is the passage mainly abut?
A. The strng sense f distance that city inhabitants are suffering.
B. Advantages and disadvantages f living in big cities r small twns.
C. The psitive rle that urbanism has been playing in ur mdern sciety.
D. Minr differences in the interpersnal relatins between cities and twns.

56. it。 句首缺少it作形式主语,指代句中主语从句that China is hme t a myriad(大量的) f hlidays... thrughut the year,故填it。
58. where。
59. ging。
60. thugh。
61. differ。
62. that。
63. t keep。
64. filled。
65. wherever。
