At the end f August this year I mved frm Lndn t a small twn in Quebec, Canada, called Matane t wrk as an English teacher. Patience is a wrd that has appeared in many frms ver the past tw mnths.
I dn’t see myself as being the mst patient persn in the wrld, but I was deeply impressed by my experience in the first week f teaching. I had just finished a discussin with tw students and just as they were leaving the classrm, ne f them turned back and said “Thank yu fr yur patience.” That was an early reminder f the imprtance being patient as a teacher. Mrever, patience in the classrm can be the difference between building students’ cnfidence in a language and breaking dwn their cnfidence entirely. I had t keep reminding myself that it wuld take time, and tw mnths later the headaches are a distant memry and my ears have becme mre used t the Quebecis accent. The key is t be patient with yurself.
