They even settled n a name fr their new charity: We Are Yung, r WAY fr shrt. It has since delivered n 38 dreams—ranging frm a helicpter trip t watching a ftball game.
Senirs can nminate (提名) themselves r be nminated by smene else. Melanie nminated her partner, 78-year-ld Victr, t g rckhunding — a hbby he’d given up when he became physically difficult. The team at WAY brrwed a bat s they culd reach the beach and enjy the day there.
“If yu lse the sense f purpse that having a passin can give yu, yur self-cnfidence ges dwn,” says Mike. “Nw, Victr has retrieved sme f his self-cnfidence. We want t shw that anything is pssible with the supprt f thers.”
While their rganizatin perates nly in their neighbrhd, Mike and Cara have their wn dreams. Each WAY wish is recrded, and that’s purpseful—the pair want peple watching t be encuraged t fulfill a wish fr a senir in their wn cmmunity. “We want t create a natinwide mvement that shifts hw we view, value and supprt senirs,” says Mike. “That is the impact we’re trying t create.”

D yu speak a Chinese dialect in yur daily life? While Mandarin is widely spken by peple acrss China, sme lcal dialects are in danger f dying ut. T save them, the Ministry f Educatin and the State Language Cmmissin launched the Chinese Language Resurces Prtectin Prject CLRPP years ag.
This prject, which surveyed the language resurces f 1,712 lcatins including 103 with endangered Chinese dialects, has helped China successfully build the largest language resurce library in the wrld. The nline library nt nly meets the needs f prfessinal researchers but als enables the public t access ver 5.6 millin audi files and ver 5 millin vide files fr their dialect learning.
When it cmes t the reasn, Dr. Zhang, chief expert n CLRPP, nce expressed his cncerns in an article. “Fr abut ver a decade, in Wu dialect areas, children aged 6 t 15 can understand but hardly speak the dialect. Yung peple abve 15 years ld smetimes speak it, but nt fluently, Zhang said. “If this cntinues, dialects will disappear in a few decades. When lcal dialects disappear, where will ur nstalgic (怀旧的) feelings find their hme?”
As China is a vast cuntry with a wide variety f dialects, natinal effrts have been made t establish a language resurce library. “Mst internatinal language prtectin prjects are implemented by separate effrts. But in China, it’s a natinal prject,” said Zhang. Within five years, mre than 350 universities and research institutins tk part in the prject, with ver 4,500 prfessinal technicians and mre than 6,000 language dialect speakers invlved.
Language prtectin nt nly relies n the gvernment and experts but als n the invlvement f billins f language users. The prject supprts schls t set up sme extracurricular classes s students can learn dialects and lcal pera perfrmances. Currently, the secnd stage f the prject is underway. Its main tasks include the deeper develpment f digital applicatins, such as digital and mbile dictinaries fr dialects as well as multilingual textbks.
    28. What d we knw abut CLRPP?
    A. It has prvided a large number f audi and vide files fr researchers.
    B. It has saved at least 103 endangered Chinese dialects frm 1,712 lcatins.
    C. It has played a vital rle in setting up an nline library fr dialect learning.
    D. It has made a cllectin f all the endangered dialects in different lcatins.
    29. What can we infer frm Dr. Zhang’s wrds?

    B. Natives have urgent desire t save the dialects in the future.
    C. The fluency f lcal dialects raised much cncern natinwide.
    D. Peple may lse a sense f belnging as lcal dialects die ut.

Napping (小睡) may be part f life fr mst f us. Hwever, sme cuntries where daytime naps have lng been part f the culture, such as Spain, nw discurage the habit. Meanwhile, sme cmpanies in the US nw prmte napping as a way t bst prductivity. “It’s imprtant t try t reveal the bilgical pathways that cntribute t the reasn why we nap,” says Dashti frm Harvard Medical Schl.
Previusly, c-senir authr Richa Sexena at Massachusett s General Hspital (MGH) and his clleagues used many databases f genetic and lifestyle infrmatin t study ther aspects f sleep. T gain a better understanding f the genetics f napping, they perfrmed a genme (基因组)-wide assciatin study (GWAS), which includes rapid scanning f cmplete sets f DNA f a large number f peple.
Fr this study, the researchers used data frm the UK Bibank, which includes genetic infrmatin frm 452,633 peple. All the participants were asked t classify their naps during the day as “never/rarely”, “smetimes” r “usually”. The GWAS identified 123 regins in the human genme cnnected with daytime napping. Then the participants wre activity mnitrs called accelermeters, which can prvide data abut daytime napping. This data als shwed that the self-reprts abut napping were accurate.
Several ther features f this study supprt its results. Fr example, the researchers btained similar findings in an analysis f the genmes f 541,333 peple cllected by 23andMe, a cnsumer genetic-testing cmpany. Als, a significant number f the genes near r at regins identified by the GWAS are already knwn t play a rle in sleep.
The team als identified at least three ptential mechanisms (机制) that prmte napping. Sme peple need mre shut-eye than thers. A daytime nap can help make up fr pr-quality sleep the night befre. Peple wh rise early may “catch up” n sleep with a nap. “This tells us that daytime napping is bilgically driven and nt just an envirnmental r behaviral chice,” says Dashti. Sme f these mechanisms are linked t health cncerns, such as a large waistline and increased bld pressure, thugh mre research n thse assciatins is needed.
    32. What did the researchers at MGH fcus n in their new study?
    A. The causes f lng napping time.
    B. The benefits f napping frequently.
    C. The reasns behind the napping habit.
    D. The genes cntributing t pr sleeping quality.
    33. What can we knw frm the text?
    A. The subjects f the GWAS came frm 123 regins.
    B. Activity mnitrs were used t ensure reliability f the results.
    C. Researchers are lking fr mre genes that can play a rle in sleep.
    D. American cmpanies encurage napping t make peple feel at ease.
    34. Accrding t Dashti, what will the researchers study next?
    A. The ways t help peple imprve their sleep quality.
    B. The causes f and slutins t sme health cncerns.
    C. The impact f envirnment n peple’s napping chice.
    D. The cnnectin between sme health prblems and the mechanisms.
    35. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
    A. Health issues caused by daytime napping.
    B. Napping cnsidered t be an essential habit.
    C. Researchers wrking hard t prmte napping.
    D. Bilgical factrs playing a rle in daytime napping.

In the frest f New Mexic, scientists are carrying tw ten-day-ld Mexican wlf pups (幼崽) riding in a backpack, searching fr a Mexican wlf pair that has just given birth t six pups. 36
Mexican wlves were extinct in the USA by the 1970s, but there was a plan t bring them back. The first step was t trap five wild Mexican wlves and breed them with tw caged nes. In 1998, the first caged-brn adult Mexican wlves were released int frests. 37 If animals have t pair up with family members, then their pups will have unhealthy genes, making them sick.
38 Let wild wlves adpt caged-brn pups—that’s hw these tw pups end up in backpacks. While the adult wlves are ut hunting, the scientists gently place the pups with their new brthers and sisters. They rub the caged-brn and wild pups tgether, even letting them pee (小便) n each ther t mix their smells! 39 This result makes the scientists ptimistic abut the plan.
