Time t update that ld saying “cld hands, warm heart.” New research shws tuching smething warm can make yu feel and act mre warmly tward thers.
Yale University scientists did a clever study. They recruited (征募) 41 cllege students fr what they thught was persnality research. A lab wrker fllwed each participant up the elevatr f Yale's psychlgy building and casually(不经意地) asked fr help hlding her cup f cffee--- either ht r iced--- while she recrded the student's name.
Inside the lab, the students read a shrt descriptin f a fictitius (虚构的) persn, and then rated this stranger's persnality. Students wh had held the ht cup saw the persn as mre generus, sciable and gd-natured than thse wh had held the cld cup--- all traits that psychlgists cnsider part f a “warm” persnality.
Then researchers recruited 53 different students fr a secnd study, having them briefly hld ne f thse heat r ice pads (护垫) sld in drugstres fr treating injuries, suppsedly as part f prduct-testing. Really the test was which gift the students chse as a thank-yu fr participating: A bttled drink r ice cream fr themselves, r ne fr a friend. Students wh held the ht pad were mre likely t chse a reward fr a friend, while thse wh held the ice pad were mre likely t chse a reward fr themselves.
S is the mral f the stry t hand ut ht drinks when yu want t make a gd first impressin? Nt quite. The bigger message is that very small cues frm ur envirnment can significantly influence behavir and feelings, said lead researcher Dr. Lawrence Williams.
Physical and psychlgical cncepts “are much mre clsely cnnected in the mind than we have previusly appreciated," said Williams.
The whle cncept f scial warmth is learned in infancy(婴儿期), Williams said. He pinted t a psychlgy study that fund attachment and affectin were mre dependent n hugs that happen t be physically warm than n merely ensuring a baby is fed.
As fr a practical use fr the finding: Thse free fd samples distributed in grcery stres prbably attract mre shppers if they’re warm, advises Williams.
    24. What can we learn abut the participants in the first experiment?
    A. They didn't realize when the experiment started.
    B. They were interviewed abut their persnality.
    C. They did nt meet each ther befre.
    D. They preferred ht t iced cffee.
25.Why were the students asked t hld heat r ice pads in the secnd study?
    A. T evaluate their physical cnditin.
    B. T test the medical functin f the pads.
    C. T assess the impact f receiving rewards n peple’s persnality.
    D. T investigate temperature's effect n peple’s psychlgy and behavir.
    26. What did Dr. Lawrence Williams agree with?
    A. Shps selling warm items tend t earn mre.
    B. Babies learn abut lve mre frm hugs than fd.
    C. Ht drinks are essential fr making a gd first impressin.

“FIND YOUR PASSION (热爱)! ” This inspiring instructin suggests it’s imprtant t discver what truly excites us in life. But is it gd advice?
Science tells us that passins are develped. They can be raised thrugh curisity and repeated practices. Our first interest can be develped int a true passin with psitive experiences. But “finding” a passin means that it already exists and is waiting t be discvered. This misunderstanding can hld peple back. Frtunately, ur latest research shws there are ways t encurage a mre pen utlk abut it.
T study these ideas, we use a framewrk f “fixed” and “grwth” mindsets: fixed mindset sees interests as unchangeable, while a grwth mindset views interests and passins as develped. A grwth mindset f interest cmes with many advantages, while a fixed mindset may discurage explratin. In ne study, after we excited participants’(参与者的) interest in a tpic f black hles with an easy-t-understand vide, peple with a fixed mindset came t dislike the tpic when faced with a technical article. Thse with a grwth mindset kept their new-fund interest despite the difficulty.
S can a grwth mindset f interest be taught? We published findings with 700 liberal arts undergraduates, mst f whm held limited interest in math and science. We ffered students either ur interventin (干预) r a study skills mdule. The interventin included reading and reflective writing activities that helped students think abut interests and passins as develped rather than fund and fixed. Fr example, students wrte a paragraph abut a case when they develped interest in a new activity. The study skills mdule, meanwhile, stressed practices such as time management. By the end f the schl year, the students wh had received the interventin were mre interested in their required math and science curses——and earned better grades in thse curses—than their study skills peers.
While ur interventin ffers a way fr schls t supprt their students, we als believe peple can independently build up a grwth mindset f interest. Realize that passins aren’t waiting t be “fund.” Take an active rle in develping them.
    28. What des “this misunderstanding” underlined in paragraph 2 refer t?
    A. Passins can be develped with mre practices.
    B. Interest is f great help t build up cnfidence.
    C. Passins are fixed and wait t be uncvered.
    D. Interest can be discuraged by repeated wrk.
    29. Why des the authr mentin the “black hles” study?
    A. T make a predictin.B. T shw the difference.
    C. T disagree with a decisin.D. T explain the rule.
    30. What can we learn abut the study frm paragraph 4?
    A. Better grades cntributed t ne’s favur t a subject.
    B. Reflective writings helped students build up interest.
    C. Study skills were used t reduce students’ stress.
    D. Students were gruped based n types f mindsets.
    31. Which f the fllwing des the authr prbably agree with?
    A. Lve what yu d, and yu’ll keep ging and becme better.
    B. Find what yu lve, and yu’ll never have t wrk a day.
    C. It can always be easy and exciting t dig int new areas.
    D. It is much better t get lst in the passin than t lse it.
