Wu went t their hmes repeatedly and gradually persuaded them t send all their children t schl. Fr thse wh culd nt affrd the tuitin, she spent her wn mney t help. She knws that educatin is an essential part f her effrts t help students escape pverty.
In 2012, Wu was assigned t wrk in anther schl in the twn, but she refused and applied t g t the Baiyang village schl, which is situated even mre remtely in the muntains where she remains.

Many animals depend upn sund t find fd, detect predatrs and cmmunicate with ne anther. These species understandably suffer when lud mtrways cut thrugh their habitats. Sme deal with this prblem by singing mre ludly, sme change the timing f their calls t ccur when fewer peple are driving, thers just mve t quieter places.
It has always been assumed that nise is a prblem unique t animals. But a new study by Ali Akbar Ghtbi-Ravandi, a btanist at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, has revealed that plants suffer t.
That plants can be affected indirectly by nise pllutin has never been in dubt. Since mst flwering species depend upn pllinatrs and mst fruit-bearing species need animals t disperse their seeds, it is bvius that if these animal partners are harmed by nise then their btanical plants will d badly, t. What has remained unknwn is whether r nt plants themselves suffer directly frm nise pllutin.
Sunds are pressure waves transmitted thrugh gases, liquids and slids. Scientists have previusly predicted that plants may be able t sense these waves as they are struck by them. A number f experiments have cnfirmed this in recent years — plants attacked with ultrasund in the lab have shwn a range f hurtful respnses, including the expressin f stress-related genes, underdevelped grwth and reduced germinatin (发芽) f seeds.
Wrking with a team f clleagues Dr. Ghtbi-Ravandi grew tw species in his lab that are cmmnly fund in urban envirnments. The plants were grwn frm seeds and allwed t mature fr tw mnths in the same space befre they were divided int tw grups. One grup was expsed t 73 decibels (分贝) f traffic nise recrded frm a busy mtrway in Tehran fr 16 hurs a day. The ther grup was left t grw in silence. After 15 days, samples were taken frm the yungest fully expanded leaves n every plant in the experiment and studied.
Nne f the plants expsed t the traffic nise did well. Analysis f their leaves revealed that all f them were suffering. Harmful chemicals in them are indicatrs f stress in plants and bth were fund at much higher levels in the plants expsed t the traffic nise. Mst ntably, levels f the harmful chemicals in the plants expsed t nise were tw t three times what they were in thse grwn in silence. The findings make it clear that the nise f traffic bthers the plants.
28. What’s the functin f the first tw paragraphs?
A. T lead in the tpic f the passage.
B. T prve that nly animals suffer frm nise.
C. T intrduce hw animals avid the urban traffic nise.

A. Classify.B. Spread.C. Damage.D. Cllect

A. Urban traffic nise mainly pses a threat t animals.
B. Plants themselves suffer indirectly frm nise pllutin.
C Plants expsed t the traffic nise bear higher levels f stress.
D. Plants that dn't need animals fr grwth will nt be influenced by nise.

S the media is largely respnsible fr giving peple false ideas and unhealthy pictures, which lead t misbehavir against ther peple, and can create a dangerus cycle amng individuals as they attempt t d the same r even wrse things t thers. The sad reality is, n ne is tuning ff their televisins r discnnecting frm these influences. The nly way prgramming f this srt will change is when peple n lnger buy int it, demand it, and watch it.
