The glbal secndhand market is expected t increase at three times the rate f the verall glbal clthing market up t 2027, driven by Gen Z
cnsumers, accrding t nline secndhand platfrm Thredup.
The cmpany’s 11th annual resale reprt, released n Wednesday, says Gen Z cnsumers will accunt fr nearly tw-thirds f incremental (增量)
secndhand spend as their purchasing pwer increases. Thredup’s reprt cntains much data and research frm analytics firm Glbaldata, which
cnducted a survey f ver 3,000 American adults, asking specific questins abut their behavirs and preferences fr secndhand.
Opprtunities exist in great numbers fr secndhand platfrms t expand business nline and cnnect with Gen Z cnsumers wh already purchase
secndhand clthing nline. Sme 58 per cent f Gen Z wh bught secndhand clthing ver the last 12 mnths made at least ne purchase nline —
mre than any ther generatin, the reprt says.
Demand fr secndhand gds is driving retailers (零售商) t rethink their strategies. Sme 86 per cent f retail executives say their custmers are
already participating in resale, up 8 per cent n 2021.“Brands are adpting resale at an accelerated rate t capture mre f this demand,” says Thredup
president Anthny Marin. “With mre than half f Gen Z saying they’re mre likely t shp with a brand that ffers secndhand alngside new,
resale is becming table stakes (筹码) fr retailers.”
One significant questin surrunding resale’s grwth is whether r nt it’s a mre ec-friendly way f shpping if custmers are still cnsuming
at an ever-rising pace. When secndhand shpping becmes sprt-like fr a generatin f custmers, and brands aren’t reducing prductin levels as
they als make prfits frm resale, experts say it’s nt actually a greener ptin.
“We have a huge issue with verprductin,” says Harriet Vcking, chief executive f the firm Ec-Age. “The fact that there is s much

In recent years, self-esteem (自尊) has fallen ut f favr in the scientific literature and in the ppular media as an imprtant factr fr life utcmes.
But a new research review suggests that it can have a psitive influence in many areas f peple’s lives.
Researchers reviewed the findings f hundreds f lngitudinal (纵向的) studies that answered questins abut lng-term cnsequences, such as: D
teenagers with high self-esteem tend t be mre successful in their careers? Their findings shw that peple with high self-esteem generally have mre
success at schl and wrk, better scial relatinships, imprved mental and physical health, and less anti-scial behavir. And, these benefits cntinue

Lng-term utcmes are determined by many psychlgical and scial factrs, s self-esteem is just ne part f the puzzle that might explain why
peple d better r wrse in certain life dmains. Still, the presence r absence f this ne factr can have a big impact ver a lifetime.
Rbins Richard W. Rbins, wh is a psychlgy prfessr at the University f Bern and has studied self-esteem fr decades, sees this review as a
cunter t the ften-repeated claim that high self-esteem is dangerus. Self-esteem is distinct frm narcissism, the research literature Rbins and Orth
examined shws. Whereas self-esteem refers t feelings f self-acceptance and self-respect, narcissism is characterized by feelings f superirity,
entitlement, and self-centeredness.
This research review shws that high self-esteem and narcissism can have ppsite implicatins fr life utcmes. High self-esteem predicts better
scial relatinships, whereas narcissism predicts difficulties with relatinships. “Yet many psychlgists have called the benefits f self-esteem a myth
and suggested that it might even have a ‘dark side’,” Rbins says.
Despite dubts cast n its imprtance, Rbins says their review f the large bdy f self-esteem research demnstrates that it matters, and
