By day, Rbert Tittertn is a lawyer. In his spare n stage beside pianist Maria Rasppva — nt as a musician but as her page turner. “I’m nt a
trained musician, but I’ve learnt t read music s I can help Maria in her perfrmance.”
Mr Tittertn is chairman f the Omega Ensemble but has been the grup’s fficial page turner fr the past fur years. His jb is t sit beside the
pianist and turn the pages f the scre s the musician desn’t have t break the flw f sund by ding it themselves. He said he became just as
nervus as thse playing instruments n stage.
“A lt f skills are needed fr the jb. Yu have t make sure yu dn’t turn tw pages at nce and make sure yu find the repeats in the
music when yu have t g back t the right spt.” Mr Tittertn explained.
Being a page turner requires plenty f practice. Sme pieces f music can g fr 40 minutes and require up t 50 page turns, including back turns fr
repeat passages. Silent nstage cmmunicatin is key, and each pianist has their wn style f “ndding” t indicate a page turn which they need t
practise with their page turner.
But like all perfrmances, there are mments when things g wrng. “I was turning the page t get ready fr the next page, but the draft wind frm
the turn caused the spare pages t fall ff the stand,” Mr Tittertn said, “Luckily I was able t catch them and put them back.”
Mst page turners are pian students r up-and-cming cncert pianists, althugh Ms Rasppva has nce asked her husband t help her ut n
stage.
“My husband is the wrst page turner,” she laughed. “He’s interested in the music, feeling every nte, and I have t say: ‘Turn, turn!’ “Rbert

Lead researcher Dr. Helena Hrder, f the University f Gthenburg in Sweden, said : "These findings are exciting because it’s pssible that

Fr the study, 191 wmen with an average age f 50 tk a bicycle exercise test until they were exhausted t measure their peak (最大值的)
cardivascular capacity. The average peak wrklad was measured at 103 watts.
A ttal f 40 wmen met the criteria fr a high fitness level, r 120 watts r higher. A ttal f 92 wmen were in the medium fitness categry; and 59
wmen were in the lw fitness categry, defined as a peak wrklad f 80 watts r less, r having their exercise tests stpped because f high bld
pressure, chest pain r ther cardivascular prblems.
These wmen were then tested fr dementia six times ver the fllwing fur decades. During that time, 44 f the wmen develped dementia. Five
percent f the highly fit wmen develped dementia, cmpared t 25 percent f the wmen with medium fitness and 32 percent f the wmen with lw
fitness.
"Hwever, this study des nt shw cause and effect between cardivascular fitness and dementia, it nly shws an assciatin. Mre research is
needed t see if imprved fitness culd have a psitive effect n the risk f dementia and als t lk at when during a lifetime a high fitness level is
mst imprtant. " She als admitted that a relatively small number f wmen were studied, all f whm were frm Sweden, s the results might nt be

But sme cllege prfessrs aren’t that cncerned. While ChatGPT’s writing might seem “quite gd in an abstract way”, Prfessr Stuart
Selber, wh teaches English at Pennsylvania State University, thinks it struggles t address lcal issues, prduce an riginal argument, r challenge ther
arguments rather than just citing (引用) them. These are all key aspects f effective essay writing in his pinin. That’s why Selber desn’t think essays
written entirely by ChatGPT have any hpe f scring high grades. ChatGPT wn’t replace riginal writing, said Selber, but it might help cllege
students imprve their wrk. Indeed, he thinks it might ffer a shrtcut fr sme f the mre difficult tasks f essay writing, like preparing a literature
review.
Dr Leah Henricksn, a lecturer at the University f Leeds, thinks that, if used carefully, AI might even make educatin fairer. He said: “I think there’s
