Nt that it was wrng but that it tended t draw my attentin away frm the stry. Yu shuld read as much English (British and/r American English) as yu can t build a vcabulary and usage that draws ur attentin t feelings, nt wrds.”
As a nn-native English speaker, I ften fund it challenging t write in English. But the editr’s letter is f great help t me as it elucidated where and hw I shuld imprve my writing. I read Ernest Hemingway’s bks and Jane Austen’s classic nvels in rder t imprve my language skills. I read English newspapers and magazines and learned at least three new wrds every day. I listened t talk shws n the radi.
After eight mnths f this prcess, I went back and read the essay I had riginally sent t the editr. I rewrte the stry and sent it t the same editr wh cngratulated me and accepted it fr publicatin. What I tk away frm this experience was that I shuld never be satisfied with just kay results. I need t keep wrking n myself and t try t cnstantly expand my knwledge by taking advantage f every single mment, advice, cmment, and review. I d feel uncmfrtable smetimes, but I am nt scared. The cean, with its vast mysteries hidden in its depths, has lng excited human curisity. Frm ancient maps decrated with dragns and sea mnsters t mdern-day technlgy, we’ve made limited prgress in uncvering the secrets f the deep blue. Despite the technlgical advancements t date, nly arund five percent f the wrld’s ceans have been mapped.
The pwer f underwater explratin is currently the biggest bstacle we face. While technlgies like wave and tidal pwer shw prmise, they are ften lcatin-dependent. Slar pwer, n the ther hand, ffers an ever-present and pwerful energy surce, even beneath the cean’s surface. Sunlight can penetrate(穿透)waters up t 50 meters deep, prviding sufficient energy t perate basic appliances. And in recent research cnducted by a team frm NYU Tandn Schl f Engineering, slar cells successfully pwered AUVs (autnmus underwater vehicles) and cmmunicatins equipment, demnstrating its enrmus ptential fr undersea explratin.
Hwever, sme challenges remain. One lies in the design f existing silicn(硅) slar technlgy, which is ill-suited fr underwater envirnments. Beynd misture and salt cntent harmful t electrnics in general, silicn slar cells are ptimized (使优化) t absrb red and infrared light, which d nt penetrate water effectively.
Anther critical issue underwater slar cells face is bifuling—the gradual gathering f rganic substances n the cells. This buildup blcks light. Furthermre, it affects the underwater vehicles themselves, increasing their weight. Previus experiments revealed that bifuling cvered ver 50 percent f the surface after just 30 days underwater, significantly hampering slar cell peratin.
In the research, the team als tackled practical challenges in designing and testing underwater slar cells. They created innvative slutins, such as using LED lights t cpy the light spectrum (光谱) at varius depths, remving the need fr water during testing.
These experiments demnstrated that silicn-based slar cells perfrmed better in shallw depths, while ther cell types prved mre efficient belw tw meters. Althugh these specially designed underwater slar cells are still in their early stages f develpment, these cntributins culd lay the fundatins fr grundbreaking technlgies that reveal bth the ptential f slar energy and the mysterius depths f ur unexplred ceans.
28.What des the authr intend t tell us in paragraph 1?
A.The cean is mstly unexplred.
B.The sea has shaped human civilizatin.
C.Marine explratin technlgy is urgently needed.
D.Technlgy prmtes humans’ underwater explratin.
29.What is the advantage f slar pwer accrding t paragraph 2?
A.It is affrdable.B.It is ec-friendly.
C.It is lcatin-independent.D.It is efficient in generating electricity.
30.What is the authr’s attitude twards the underwater slar cells designed by the researchers?
A.Uncncerned.B.Favrable.C.Dubtful.D.Disapprving.
31.In which sectin f a magazine may this text appear?
A.Health.B.Educatin.C.Sciety.D.Nature.

Zer-emissin cars are saring in ppularity, but running an electric vehicle is next t impssible in places with limited charging infrastructure. Stella Terra culd change that. The khaki-green SUV uses slar panels n its slping rf t charge its electric battery, meaning it can drive lng distances pwered entirely by the sun.
Built by a team f students at Eindhven University f Technlgy in the Netherlands, “the wrld’s first ff-rad(越野的) slar-pwered vehicle” culd help cnnect remte areas “where rads are less develped and energy grids are nt as reliable,” and assist with emergency aid and deliveries, says Thieme Bsman, events manager fr the team.
The rad-legal car has a tp speed f 145 kilmeters per hur. On a sunny day, its battery range is arund 710 kilmeters n rads, and arund 550 kilmeters ff-rad, depending n the surface. In cludy cnditins, the team estimates the range culd be 50 kilmeters less.
Electric SUVs are heavier than standard electric vehicles, and require bigger, heavier batteries t pwer them. Minimizing the vehicle’s weight is essential, and the team f 22 students fcused n making every element ultra-efficient. At just 1,200 kilgrams, Stella Terra weighs arund 25% less than the average mid-sized SUV.
Able t travel ff-rad, and with n need fr charging pints, drivers f a slar-pwered SUV are liberated t g wherever they please, says Bb van Ginkel, technical manager fr Stella Terra. The designers made elements f the SUV livabie fr lng-distance, multiday jurneys: fr example, the car’s scats fully recline t create a bed. When the car is still, the slar panels can be extended t maximize charging, while dubling as an awning(遮阳篷) fr shade.
The team tested the vehicle in Mrcc earlier this mnth, driving mre than 1,000 kilmeters between the cuntry’s nrthern cast and the Sahara Desert in the suth. “Mrcc has a huge variety f landscapes and different surfaces in quite a shrt distance,” says Bsman, adding that the car was tested “n every type f surface that a car like this culd encunter”.
Bsman nted that the vehicle had prved t be ne-third mre efficient than expected n the trip, and that its lightweight design made it less likely t get stuck n rugged terrain(地形), and put less stress n its suspensin.
The team hpes their cncept SUV culd be mass-prduced in the near future. “We aim t inspire nt nly everyday peple, but als the autmtive industry, the Frd and Chryslers f the wrld, t think again abut their designs and t innvate faster than they currently d,” says Bsman.
32.What is the main advantage f Stella Terra?
A.It is much lighter than ther electric SUVs.B.It has a tp speed f 145 kilmeters per hur.
C.It can drive lng distances pwered by the sun.D.It can be used fr emergency aid and deliveries.
33.Accrding t Thieme Bsman, what is ne ptential applicatin f Stella Terra?
A.Persnal use in urban areas.B.Taxi services in crwded cities.
C.Off-rad adventures in remte areas.D.Delivery services in well-develped regins.
34.Hw did Stella Terra perfrm during the test in Mrcc?
A.It underperfrmed n rugh grund.B.It reached tp speed ver a shrt distance.
C.It never gt trapped in challenging landscapes.D.It was beynd expectatins in terms f efficiency.
35.What is the team’s hpe fr Stella Terra?
A.It can inspire the autmtive industry.B.It will be well received by cnsumers.
C.It can replace Frd and Chrysler designs.D.It can be innvated faster than ther SUVs.
