The study fund similar face-matching perfrmance between peple diagnsed with prspagnsia using stricter vs lser criteria, suggesting that diagnstic criteria shuld be expanded t be mre inclusive. That culd lead t new diagnses amng millins wh may have the disrder but dn't realize it.
The study results are based n a web-based questinnaire and tests administered t 3,341 individuals.First, the researchers asked participants whether they experience difficulties recgnizing faces in their everyday lives. Then they administered tw bjective tests t determine whether they had difficulties learning new faces r recgnizing highly familiar famus faces.
The results shwed that 31 individuals ut f the 3,341 had majr prspagnsia, while 72 f the 3,341 had a milder frm. The researchers als bserved that there were n neatly divided separate grups f peple with pr r gd ability t recgnize faces. Rather, the ability t recgnize faces appeared t lie n a cntinuum (连续体).
Finally, the researchers cmpared face-matching scres amng peple with prspagnsia diagnsed using different criteria and fund that using stricter diagnstic cutffs did nt crrespnd with lwer face-matching scres.
In the new study, the researchers prvide diagnstic suggestins fr identifying mild and majr frms f prspagnsia based n guidelines fr majr and mild neurcgnitive disrders in the DSM5, the 5th editin f the Diagnstic and Statistical Manual f Mental Disrders.

Plastic, which is nw cmmn, cntains endcrine-disrupting chemicals, r EDCs (内分泌干扰物), that has been linked t increased risk f many chrnic diseases. Parental expsure t EDCs, fr example, has been shwn t cause metablic (新陈代谢的) disrders, including besity and diabetes, in the later generatins.
Led by Changcheng Zhu, a prfessr f bimedical sciences in the Schl f Medicine at the University f Califrnia, the researchers investigated the impact f fathers' expsure t a phthalate called dicyclhexyl phthalate, r DCHP (邻苯二甲酸二环己酯), n the metablic health f first generatin (F1) and secnd generatin (F2) in mice. Phthalates are chemicals used t make plastic mre durable.
The researchers fund that fathers' DCHP expsure fr fur weeks led t high insulin (胰岛素) resistance and impaired insulin signaling in F1. The same effect, but weaker, was seen in F2 .
"We fund fathers' expsure t EDCs may have intergeneratinal and transgeneratinal detrimental effects n the metablic health f their later generatins, "Zhu said. "T the best f ur knwledge, ur study is the first t demnstrate this."
In the case f fathers' expsure in the study, intergeneratinal effects are changes that ccur due t direct expsure t a stressr, such as expsure t DCHP f fathers (F0 generatin) and his F1 generatin. Transgeneratinal effects are changes passed dwn t later generatins that are nt directly expsed t the stressr (fr example, F2 generatin).
"This suggests that fathers' DCHP expsure can lead t sex-specific transgeneratinal effects n the metablic health f their later generatins," Zhu said.
Zhu stressed that the impact f expsure t DCHP n human health is nt well understd, even thugh DCHP is widely used in a variety f plastic prducts and has been detected in fd, water, and indr particulate matter.
"It's best t minimize ur use f plastic prducts," Zhu said. "This can als help reduce plastic pllutin, ne f ur mst pressing envirnmental issues."
12. Why are phthalates added t plastic? A . T beautify it. B . T make it lng-lasting. C . T reduce its cst. D . T increase its weight.
13. What des the underlined wrd "detrimental" in paragraph 4 prbably mean? A . Negative. B . External. C . Distinct. D . Adventurus.
14. What did Zhu advise peple t d? A . Bury plastic waste. B . Watch ut fr the fd they eat. C . Use fewest plastic prducts. D . Never prduce plastic prducts.
15. What can be a suitable title fr the text? A . Plastic cntains endcrine disrupting chemicals B . Plastic pllutin is a pressing envirnmental issue C . DCHP is widely used in a variety f plastic prducts D . Chemicals in plastic may impact tw generatins' health
