Picking up a free newspaper at the Tube statin, I see the title“Ht! Ht! Ht!”. Tday, the temperature in Lndn is expected t reach 30 plus degrees! The average high temperature in July is nly 22 degrees, s ver 30 is nt usual fr Lndn. It’s ging t be awful n the Central Line, with n air cnditining. Why did they have t invent the Tube befre air cnditining? It’s just typical that my jurney is n ne f the ldest lines, as well as ne f the deepest. It’s the httest n the whle Tube system.
Sure enugh, ging dwn the stairs and nt the platfrm is like jumping int a vlcan that’s erupting. This, hwever, is nthing cmpared t the train. Because there’s n air cnditining, the temperature inside the train can reach 35 degrees! It’s lvely at the beach, but nt s when yu’re wearing a suit and in a crwd f passengers! I’m sure the passenger next t me and I are melting and becming ne! I had bacn and eggs fr breakfast, and nw I’m feeling a bit sick - I hpe I can make it t Bank statin... I’ll avid the feeling by thinking abut wrk. I wrk in a tall, glass building. One very ht summer, the sun reflected ff it and melted cars parked belw! Will this happen again tday?
Yes, each summer in Lndn definitely seems htter than the last. I suddenly feel a bit scared, Perhaps nw is the time t start planning fr the future? I shuld prbably put my flat n the market and buy a bat. That way, when the Thames rises and there is a fld in Lndn, I’ll still be able t get t wrk. But wait! Wuld I still have a wrkplace t g t? My ffice is nly n the third flr f the building, s quite lw. I’ll speak with my manager abut mving t the tp flr. Mst imprtantly, I will need t learn t swim! I’ll jin a beginner’s swimming class immediately. Then I’ll be able t survive even when the tall buildings are flded.
Lking thrugh my newspaper, I’m shcked by phts shwing that a hurricane in Asia has destryed a twn. What’s mre, heavy rain in Eastern Eurpe has caused landslides, and the heat acrss Suthern Eurpe has caused frest fires. Experts say this bad weather has ccurred due t climate change. News like this makes me feel nervus. Nw that it’s hard t avid a disaster n Earth, perhaps I shuld start thinking abut mving t space...
“The next statin is Bank!”cmes the annuncement. That’s my destinatin. Stepping ut f the statin with a heavy heart, I suddenly feel a fresh wind n my face. Well, maybe I have been wrrying t much. After all, it’s nly 30 degrees utside!
