One Saturday last Nvember, I stepped int my lcal library. I was abut t read a bk when I heard an elderly man speak t a lady. “This library will sn becme a cafe. Everyne is reading with electrnic devices,” he said. Hearing this, I wanted t shut, “I still read library bks!” But my wrds stuck in my thrat and I fund teenagers arund me were talking t friends r staring at their phnes.
Reading nline feels rbtic t me. It’s like I stare at a screen and click “next” fr the fllwing page t appear until the very end f the e-bk, and at the end f all f that, I just think, “That’s it?” But when I read a printed bk, it’s like I’m hlding n t the characters. I can imagine the plt better, as I can picture the scenes f each mment in my head with mre accuracy and imaginatin.
Besides, sme nline bks miss cmpnents that are in the printed nvels. Fr instance, the physical cpy f a fantasy nvel I have read cntains a map, but the e-bk versin des nt. That is an injustice t e-bk users; after reading and understanding the map, the stry made a lt mre sense fr me, in terms f the setting and plt.
And persnally, physically turning t the next page is better than clicking “next”. When reading nline, I smetimes wrry that I click “next” t quickly. It feels mre like a race; I want t finish it because the pages just keep making that “flipping” sund and I wnder hw lng the bk really is.
Sme printed bks have a special smell that makes the nvel feel special t me. It’s hard t describe but I’m sure I’m nt the nly ne that thinks s. I knw I cannt cnvince every teen t switch frm the digital bk t the printed ne, but maybe my writing abut the difference will at least get sme f them t think abut it.
24.Why will the library be replaced by a cafe?
A.Few peple head fr it.B.It lacks gd management.
C.Few peple read its bks.D.It hlds little attractin fr the yuth.

A.They include additinal cntents.B.They prvide a strng cnnectin t the characters.
C.They have a special pleasant smell.D.They can imprve readers’ imaginatin.
26.What is the authr’s purpse f writing this text?
A.T inspire teenagers’ interest in reading.B.T shw advantages f printed bks.
C.T reduce the impact f electrnic devices.D.T encurage teens t change the reading medium.
    C
We’ve all been there: in a lift, in line at the bank r n an airplane, surrunded by peple wh are, like us, deeply fcused n their smartphnes r, wrse, struggling with the uncmfrtable silence.
What’s the prblem? It’s pssible that alng with the rapid develpment f sciety, we all fcus n ur phne and desktp, and therefre it results in ur cmprmised cnversatinal intelligence. Hwever, it’s mre likely that nne f us start a cnversatin because it’s awkward and challenging, r we think it’s annying and unnecessary. But the next time yu find yurself amng strangers, cnsider that small talk is wrth the truble. Experts say it’s an invaluable scial practice that results in big benefits.
Dismissing small talk as unimprtant is easy, but we can’t frget that deep relatinships wuldn’t even exist if it weren’t fr small cnversatin. “Small talk is the grease (润滑剂) fr scial cmmunicatin,” says Bernard Carducci, directr f the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Sutheast. “Almst every great lve stry and each big business deal begins with small talk,” he explains. “The key t successful small talk is learning hw t cnnect with thers, nt just cmmunicate with them.”
In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, assciate prfessr f psychlgy at UBC, invited peple n their way int a cffee shp. One grup was asked t seek ut an interactin with its waiter; the ther, t speak nly when necessary. The results shwed that thse wh chatted with their server reprted significantly higher psitive feelings and a better cffee shp experience. “It’s nt that talking t the waiter is better than talking t yur husband,” says Dunn. “But interactins with peripheral (边缘的) members f ur scial netwrk matter fr ur well-being als.”
Dunn believes that peple wh reach ut t strangers feel a significantly greater sense f belnging, a bnd with thers. Carducci believes develping such a sense f belnging starts with small talk. “Small talk is the basis f gd manners,” he says.
27.What des the underlined wrd “cmprmised” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A.Weakened.B.Enhanced.C.Secret.D.Natural.

A.It made the cffee taste better.B.It reduced waiting time in line.
C.It imprved peple’s md and experience.D.It helped them bnd with the server deeply.
30.What is the text mainly abut?
    A.Elevatr manners.B.The imprtance f small talk.
C.Smartphnes and scial media.D.Develping deep relatinships.

If there was an app claiming t imprve yur memry, wuld yu be willing t try it? It’s hard t resist the idea f having a better memry.
In respnse t this perceived need, the brain training industry has grwn rapidly, ffering a wide range f accessible and affrdable mental exercises thrugh smartphne and tablet apps. Many researchers have fund evidence suggesting that well-designed exercises can imprve mental abilities and lead t better scres n IQ tests. They cmpare the brain t muscles, suggesting that targeted repetitin f memry exercises can strengthen and cnditin ur memry prcesses, similar t hw athletes engage in strength and cnditining by repeatedly exercising specific muscle grups.
In cntrast t everyday activities like slving a cmplex puzzle, memry training apps are specifically designed t prvide a mre challenging wrkut fr the brain. These apps typically invlve tasks that require tracking a large number f bjects while being distracted (使分心) by a secndary task, such as mental calculatins r explring a game’s landscape. If this brain training prves effective, it culd be beneficial fr individuals with brain-related disabilities r thse recvering frm cnditins like cancer.
Critics, thugh, argue that while the cncept is appealing, the verall evidence fails t demnstrate significant imprvement in cre brain prcesses. Additinally, despite the claims made by many apps and brain training cmpanies, scientists have yet t identify the key factrs that make an interventin truly effective r determine the best appraches t address the diverse needs f individuals seeking help.
While the questin is still pen t debate, there is evidence suggesting that shrt-term wrking memry training can benefit high-functining individuals. Hwever, it’s imprtant t nte that brain training, like diet and exercise, is unlikely t have identical effects n every individual.
31.In what way is the brain similar t muscles accrding t many researchers?

33.What d critics think memry training apps lack?
    A.Legal claims.B.Prven effects.
    C.Tailred services.D.Appealing cncepts
34.What can be the suitable title fr the text?
    A.Can Our Memry be Imprved?

    第三部分 书面表达(共两节,32分)
    第一节(共4小题;第40、41题各2分,第42题3分,第43题5分,共12分)
    阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英语回答问题。
Gestures refer t the cmmunicatin where visible bdily actins are used t cmmunicate imprtant messages. They include mvement f hands, face, r ther parts f the bdy. Gestures benefit ur lives a lt. Take language learning.
In sme languages, certain syllables (音节) within wrds are prnunced with markedly mre weight than thers, called lexical stress. Languages such as English cmmnly feature lexical stress. Fr example, the wrd “accent” invlves mre emphasis n the first syllable, “ac”, than the secnd, “cent”. Native speakers f Chinese, hwever, dn’t use lexical stress and therefre find it difficult t learn languages that feature it.
Making any hand gesture culd help learners recgnize lexical stress, which has been prved by Xing Tian’s team. They selected 124 native Chinese speakers, wh watched vides f peple perfrming hand mvements that were synced(同步的) t recrdings f the same English wrds. In additin, they als fund when mre prnunced gestures matched the stressed syllable, the participants were particularly gd at identifying it.
The research invlved several experiments, which makes it difficult t cmbine the results. Nevertheless, Tian estimates that the use f gestures helped identify lexical stress between 10 and 15 percent mre accurately cmpared with n gestures at all, and hw much help depends n the nature f gestures.
A fllw-up study cnducted by anther team expsed the same Chinese speakers t Russian wrds and gt similar results. “Our findings highlight the functinal rle f gestures in enhancing speech learning, suggesting practical strategies fr language teaching and learning,” the researchers write in their paper.
The benefits f gestures extend far beynd teaching and learning. Since gestures are deeply integrated int ur daily lives, they deserve mre f ur attentin.
    40.What d gestures mean?

41.What did Xing Tian’s team find in their study?

42.Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why.
Gestures help learn lexical stress, but the degree t which they help depends n the cmplexity f the lexical stress.

43.Besides what is mentined in the passage, hw d gestures benefit yu in yur life? (In abut 40wrds)
