I can't miss the little ld lady with her kerchief (方头巾) n her head, a black umbrella blwing all ver. I can tell she is freezing. She is standing at a bus stp, and I'm driving by, late fr my early mrning shift. I decide t stp and ffer her a ride.

Prfessr Beilck and anther researcher, Gerard Ramirez, have develped a pssible slutin. Just befre an exam, highly anxius test-takers spend ten minutes writing abut their wrries abut the test.
The researchers tested the idea n a grup f twenty anxius cllege students. They gave them tw shrt math tests. After the first ne, they asked the students t either sit quietly r write abut their feelings abut the upcming secnd test.
Prfessr Beilck says thse wh sat quietly scred an average f 12% wrse n the secnd test. But the students wh had written abut their fears imprved their perfrmance by an average f 5%. An extrardinarily imprtant study skill is knwing hw t mark a bk. Students mark the main ideas and imprtant details with a pen r pencil, yellw r blue r range. Sme students mark new vcabulary in a different clr. Mst students write questins r shrt ntes in the margins. Marking a bk is a useful skill, but it's imprtant t d it right. Sme students get s nervus befre a test. They d prly even if they knw the material. Sian Beilck, a prfessr at the University f Chicag in Illinis, has studied these highly anxius test-takers. The students start wrrying abut the results. And when we wrry, it actually uses up attentin and memry resurces.
Prfessr Beilck and anther researcher, Gerard Ramirez, have develped a pssible slutin. Just befre an exam, highly anxius test-takers spend ten minutes writing abut their wrries abut the test.
The researchers tested the idea n a grup f twenty anxius cllege students. They gave them tw shrt math tests. After the first ne, they asked the students t either sit quietly r write abut their feelings abut the upcming secnd test.

Mst American cllege students need t be efficient readers. This is necessary because full-time students prbably have t read several hundred pages every week. They dn't have time t read a chapter three r fur times. They need t btain as much infrmatin as pssible frm the first r secnd reading.
An extrardinarily imprtant study skill is knwing hw t mark a bk. Students mark the main ideas and imprtant details with a pen r pencil, yellw r blue r range. Sme students mark new vcabulary in a different clr. Mst students write questins r shrt ntes in the margins. Marking a bk is a useful skill, but it's imprtant t d it right. First, read a chapter with ne pen in yur hand and thers next t yu n the desk. Secnd, read a whle paragraph befre yu mark anything. Dn't mark t much. Usually yu will mark abut 10% f a passage. Third, decide n yur wn system fr marking. Fr example, maybe yu will mark main ideas in yellw, imprtant details in blue and new wrds in range. Maybe yu will put questin marks in the margin when yu dn't understand smething. And befre an exam, instead, yu just need t review yur marks and yu can save a lt f time.
