The law says sites fr kids under 13 cannt cllect persnal infrmatin, such as a phne number r full name, withut a parent's permissin.
This July, the Federal Trade Cmmissin (FTC) will update COPPA fr the first time since the law was created in 1998 when there were n smart phnes. The nature f the way kids get nline has changed, FTC lawyer Phyllis Marcus said.
When the changes take effect, COPPA will apply t mbile devices and newer frms f advertising. It will expand what falls under "persnal infrmatin" t include vides, phtgraphs, and services that give users lcatin.
