    一、省略的基本用法
    为了避免重复,将句子中的一个或几个成分省去,这种语法现象叫省略。省略是避免重复、突出新信息并使上下文紧密连接的一种语法手段。英语中的省略结构有下列几种情况。
    1. 并列复合句中某些相同成分的省略。
    This beeper wrks well, but that ne desn’t (wrk well).
    这个寻呼机工作正常,但那个不行。
    Sme bks are t be tasted, thers (are) t be swallwed, and sme few (are) t be chewed and digested.
    有些书浅尝即可,有些书浏览即可,而有少量的书则需要咀嚼消化。
    2. 在when, while, if, as if, thugh (或althugh), as, until, nce, whether, unless, where等连词连接的状语从句中,常省略跟主句相同的主语和be动词。
    When (water is) pure, water is a clrless liquid.
    水纯净时,是无色的液体。
    When (I am) in truble, I always turn t her fr help.
    我困难时总是找她帮助。
    Crrect errrs, if (there are) any.
    如果有错误,就应当改正。
    Wd gives much smke while (wd is) burning.
    木头燃烧时放出很多烟。

    3. 当见到“when/if/where/wherever/whenever/as sn as/as fast as/than ...+pssible/necessary ...”时,可理解中间省略了it is/was。

    4. 当it作形式主语时,主语从句可省略that。
    It seems (that) Je is ut, nt Jack.

    It’s a pity (that) yu can’t perate a cmputer.

    5. 在限制性定语从句中可省略作宾语的关系代词whm, which, that。
    That is the naughty by (whm/that) we talked abut last week.
    那就是我们上周讨论的淘气男孩。
    6. 在directin(方向), way(方式), distance(距离), time(时间), times(倍数)等后面所接的定语从句中,常省略that, which, in which。
    The directin (in which) we mve a bdy can be changed.
    我们移动物体的方向是可以改变的。
    The distance (which/that) light travels in ne secnd is 300,000 kilmetres.
    光在一秒内传播的距离是30万千米。
    7. 命令句、感叹句、部分第一人称的陈述句、部分问句和答句中省略最为常见。

    Why s? 为什么这样?

    8. 用s或nt来省略上文或问句中的一部分或整个句意。
    — Can Emily d this wrk?
    — I think s./I think nt (或I dn’t think s).
    ——埃米莉能做这件工作吗?
    ——我想她行。/我想她不行。
    —Did yu knw anything abut it?
    —Nt until yu tld me.
    ——这件事你以前知道吗?

    9. 当用强调句型强调疑问词时,常省略强调句型中的that。
    When was it (that) yu received his e­mail?
    你收到他的电子邮件是什么时候?

    10. 某些形容词要求后面接一固定的介词,若接一从句,则只用that或疑问词直接引出从句,从而省略原有的介词。

    她怀疑她能否按时完成。
    11. 用t表示前述动词(包括谓语或非谓语动词)及其短语。

    13. 注意在一些固定短语中某些介词的省略。
