When wuld yu say “ld age” begins? It's pssible that the clser yu think yu are t that threshld (起始点), the later yu'll put it, but peple's general perceptins f ld age have been changing ver time. New research finds that nwadays, we think f ld age starting later than we used t -- but that trend may nt cntinue frever.
Scientists frm Germany, the USA, and Luxemburg analyzed data frm ver14,000 individuals participating in a decades-lng study called the German Ageing Survey. These participants, brn between 1911 and 1974, cvering several generatins, prvided up t eight respnses ver a 25-year span, when they were aged between 40and 100.
One f the main questins, and the subject f the new paper, was “At what age wuld yu describe smene as ld?”
When they were asked this questin at the age f 65, peple brn in 1911 said that ld age begins, n average, at the age f 71. When the questin was repeated t peple brn in 1956 nce they als hit 65 years ld, they instead put the threshld three years later, at 74.
In a statement, first authr Markus Wettstein gave sme suggestins as t why this might be:“Life expectancy has increased, which might cntribute t a later perceived nset (开始) f ld age. Als, sme aspects f health have imprved ver time, s that peple f a certain age wh were regarded as ld in the past may n lnger be cnsidered ld nwadays.”
The same trend was bserved at the individual level t. On average, as each participant aged by fur r five years themselves, their estimate fr the nset f ld age increased by a year.
Wmen put the threshld fr ld age abut tw years later than men n average. There were sme ther factrs that were fund t impact smene's individual estimate t --fr example, peple in prer health, wh were lnelier, r wh “felt” lder generally believed ld age begins earlier.
“It is unclear t what extent the trend twards pstpning ld age reflects a trend twards mre views n lder peple and aging, r rather the ppsite -- perhaps the nset f ld age is pstpned because peple cnsider being ld t be an undesirable state,” Wettstein said.
What's evident is that this pstpnement trend wn't last frever. In fact, it's already slwing dwn.
The study has sme limitatins, in that participants were all frm ne cuntry. The researchers say future studies shuld seek t address this, as well as examining whether the trend twards pstpning the perceptin f the nset f ld age is cntinuing t decelerate.
    63. What is the main finding f the new research mentined in the article?
    A. Peple's perceptins f ld age have remained cnstant ver time.
    B. Imprvements in certain health aspects help increase life expectancy.
    C. The threshld fr cnsidering smene as “ld” has been shifting earlier.
    D. Nwadays peple tend t think f ld age as starting later than in the past.

    C. Future studies will explre factrs affecting the estimated nset f ld age.
    D. Sme participants cver several generatins but are frm the same family.
    65. Which f the fllwing is NOT included in the pstpnement trend?

Why Gen Z Is Leaving Cities fr the Cuntryside
In recent years, there has been a nticeable trend f Gen Z individuals relcating frm cities t the cuntryside.
This generatin, brn between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, is knwn fr its preference fr experiences ver material pssessins and a desire t lead a mre sustainable lifestyle. As a result, many yung peple are leaving urban areas in pursuit f a slwer pace f life and clser cnnectin with nature.
The appeal f cuntry living fr Gen Z stems frm multiple factrs. Firstly, it ffers a slwer pace f life, which can be a welcme change frm the hustle and bustle f city living. This can be particularly beneficial fr thse wh struggle with anxiety r stress-related issues. Mrever, there is greater access t nature and utdr activities such as hiking, camping and fishing. This nt nly prmtes physical health but als helps t develp a deeper cnnectin with the natural wrld. Als, living in the cuntryside ften means lwer living csts and less cmpetitin fr jbs, making it an attractive ptin fr thse just starting ut in their careers.
Sme believe that technlgy has cmpletely captured the attentin f the yunger generatin, and they are therefre reluctant t leave the cnveniences and excitement f the mdern city. Actually, it is precisely this technlgical advancement that has facilitated the shift twards rural living amng Gen Z. With remte wrk becming increasingly cmmn, yung adults are n lnger tied t urban centers fr emplyment. They can wrk frm anywhere with a reliable internet cnnectin. Additinally, scial media platfrms have made it easier fr individuals t share their rural lifestyles and cnnect with thers wh have similar interests.
